( If you want to see barbs , take a look at poor Anni's "Doggy" page and the comment about butter.....talk about "starting a fight in an empty room ".......it's a disgrace.)
Which bit is a disgrace ?? Do Vets not treat Dogs ?? Can you diagnose by the Internet ?? Balkan is without doubt a Very Very Complex Dog that was my point. it wasn't a barb.
I just think it is time we stopped offering advice on something we know nothing about, now is that clear enough !!!!

The topic exists (and has continued) ,... drawing comments, advice , sympathy , support and understanding because Anni wants it to .....
For you to chime in at this stage with a scornful reference to a well known piece of country remedial advice ,was the barb (and well you know it....don't come the innocent !) ...
I note that you have editted out "Intrenet diagnosis marvellous (?) " which had a similarly dismissive tone in favour of something less aggressive...

I agree that some of the blame rests with parents and adults in general for not explaining the significance (symbolic) of the anthem. It is just another symptom of malaise.
On the subject of evacuation of their nationals from the middle east by western countries Canada has decided to charge $500 per person. This comes after the exodus from Lebanon when it was found that the majority of evacuees were folks with dual nationality and many of them returned to Lebanon within weeks of leaving..

Been there, done that Frank. Current insurer is the cheapest quote I've found, even after beating them down it's still £390, that's £90 up on last year. Nearest anyone else has got to that is £445...

That's what I was trying to say in a previous post . .......I don't think there is a malaise. It's just that we don't necessarily do things the way we used to , and it's too easy to view the past with affection , whilest blotting out all the things that were wrong with it.
We HAVE moved on and will continue to do so.....In three hundred years (an arbitrary number) our descendants might look back at us and wonder how we coped with being so primitive ! (but we don't think we are)
I maintain that this is no bad place to live .....(and singing the bloody national anthem at every opportunity won't make it better , either....we don't need it )
You mentioned being elderly ,in a previous post , as if it were an excuse for being offensive .....I didn't pick you up on it at the time, but please don't think it went unnoticed .........
However , I do quite like Christmas Trees .....alive !

Bradders do you ever stop? If I mentionned being elderly it was in the context of a post and had nothing to do with anything "offensive". But since you like to be offensive you simply continue to snipe, why don't you stick to posting your opinion on topics rather than attacking individuals?

Kev, there was a discussion on the Money Programme on R4 on Saturday about the enormous rise in premiums. All the usual excuses trotted out but there is a major new factor that seems to have mushroomed in the last twelve months. They cited the case of a footballer whose expensive car had to be repaired and as he had a policy that guranteed a hire car while his was off the road he hired a Maclaren Mercedes at £534 per day. Discussion of this led into the fact that there is a loose confederation of the hirers who supply this market and they are offering a 'clearing house' service whereby they 'sell' a case to the hirer at fees reported to be as much as £1000 and all this feeds back into the general premiums. What wasn't made clear was how the clearing houses get details of the cases and whether they were paying their informants. All dodgy stuff but the bottom line is that in the end the losses on these poilcies are spread over all the others and hence the 30% jump in premiums.
Commiserations. Roll on retirement so you can sell the car!

Stanley's got it right - we recorded that Money Box programme and listened to it the other day. The personal details of claimants are passed from company to company and exported out to non-insurance companies such as the clearance houses Stanley mentioned, garages, hire companies, ambulance chasers, you name it, any business that might make a profit out of your claim. Take note that the footballers replacement sports car was not only very expensive but much more so than the expensive one he owned. All this is pushing up premiums but so is the the fact that many more claims now include for personal injury and this gets a lot more expensive than repairing a car, even a fancy one. Kev is right, you can't just shop around to escape this enormous premium hike, every insurance company is doing the same. But it's still best to shop around and not take your company's latest quote - it's always raised, especially if you've just completed a first year with them.
Frank's right about there being so much rubbish talked on TV and in the papers etc about "not getting our people out of Libya". The media never stop to think what else is involved and, anyway, they sell more papers by being controversial. I was pleased to hear how the Royal Marines had formed a cordon on the dockside around HMS Cumberland when they brought some people out. This sounded like the old days for the Royal Marines and prompts me to ask the question: when did the RM make the change from operating on ships or near ships to operations in deserts? Have they always done it, if not when did it change?

I had an uncle who was in the Royal Marines during the war and I was surprised to find out that he had been in the thick of the advance up through Italy. (I had another one who was one of the first on to the beaches on D day, he was a beach signaler with C.O.)

Getting people out of Libya is so complicated, people are nbeing given conflicting information...go to the airport..don't go to the airport...a Canadian fliight went in and out empty because of the confusion on the ground. Time slots are very small and there was no one ready within the time constraints.

The Royal Marines (Bootnecks) bless em, are and always have been a part of the Royal Navy, nearly all ships have Marines on board, they form a part of the crew and as such can be deployed either on board or ashore. This is a unique arrangement and has seen much success wherever they have been. Many nations have Marines, ours were the first, they always have been, are, and always will be the best.

The SBS are taking a leading role in Afghanistan, because of their Mountain Warfare expertize and it transfers to Deserts really well.
FPG RMs are now onboard all of our Warships.
