EU plans to offer plastic cash for fish alternative By PRW Staff Posted 5 May 2011 10:47 am GMT  Fishing fleets offered cash to catch plastics
The plan is also aimed at mollifying the anger amongst Europe’s fishing industry, which is up in arms over plans that will see a ban of the wasteful practice of discarding edible but low-value fish at sea.
Fishing vessels that clear plastic will initially be subsidised by the EU but the hope is that the practise will become self-sustaining as the value of recycled plastics increases.

Catty, what a good question. I suspect the old adage 'One law for the rich and another for the poor' applies. If you have wealth, status and influence you have the power to bend the law. Sepp Blatter himself is not above criticism if the various reports are to be believed.
I see Mr Willetts has done it again. He has suggested that during the final phases of the allocation of university places tuition fees could be lowered to ensure take-up of places in courses that are under-subscribed. The relevant bodies have forecast this will lead to chaos. As if there wasn't anough chaos in the system already! Time for another reverse ferret?

Catty, there are a lot of problems and questions I know and I think I agree we have gone too far perhaps with the new rules but the last race was very exciting!
My daughter's account of the events of the last few weeks. Like a cross between South Fork and Jilly Cooper. And the fact that she told me she loved having a satisfying conversation with me. Wonderful!

Just heard the news about the retributive sentence in Iran on the man who blinded a woman by throwing acid at her. The blinded woman has volunteered to pour the acid in his eyes. I understand the principle but can't help feeling revulsion at the barbarity of both the original attack and the sentence. Does such 'justice' reduce the judges and executioner to the same level as the attacker? Medieval. Does it lead to progress?

The Pensions Regulator and the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) raised the
concerns following HIG Capital’s acquisition of Silentnight, the UK’s
largest bed manufacturer.
HIG, which owned Silentnight’s debt via its subsidiary Bayside Capital,
called in the administrator after the PPF refused to accept a deal from
the private equity firm to the pay the Silentnight pension scheme at a
rate of 6p in the pound compared to 65p offered to trade creditors.
It was also willing to offer a 10pc stake to the PPF, but the PPF
declined the offer because it typically seeks 33pc in the restructured
company. The PPF would usually sell its investment in the restructured
business at a profit once the business recovers.
HIG then bought the company out of administration in May, taking full
ownership of Silentnight, including its brands and assets but not its
pension obligations. Silentnight employs 1,250 workers.
It is the second private equity firm in the last few weeks to shed
pension liabilities as part of restructuring deal.

Haed of the IMF pulled off the plane before take-off in the US for questioning about an alleged sexual attack on a maid in the hotel he was staying at. Not the first time he has been interviewed.The police say he hasn't been charged and is 'helping with enquiries'. They must have needed a lot of help to drag someone as important as him off the plane at JFK minutes before take-off. Someone somewhere had a difficult decision to make!
Much later it is reported he has been charged with offences. Bit of a blow for the IMF and the people supporting him in his bid to be elected President of France. How can anyone get into a mess like that?

I keep telling you, politicians see themselves as beyond the law.
The higher up they get in the hierachy the worse they become. You only have to look around at the antics of the sad sample of creatures who are at present trying to rule the various nations in the world in order to realise that this sort of thing should come as no surprise to anyone.
If other countries had the FOI act that was introduced by St. Tony (much to his lasting regret) I am sure we should see worldwide political morality very much resembling a Gruyere Cheese. I think there is very much more to be revealed in our own country yet (in all it's parts).

Its not just politicians. I have just read that a nine year old boy has been arrested for drink driving, but he has been released as he couldnt be charged due to his age!!!!!!!!!!!

Was trapped in a hotel room in Birmingham on Saturday night and ended up watching the Eurovision Song Contest (last time I did that it was Cliff Richard singing "Congratulations").
The thing that struck me was this: not so long ago we were hearing about certain countries embroiled in war, death, destruction and human suffering.
Now those very same countries are in Eurovision, all voting for each other and even winning!
