Dave, Can you tell me where "Earby Moorside" is? East or West of the village? I have two instances of it occurring in Parish registers, regarding my families in Earby. It would help, as I could see which direction they probably came into the village from. They are Croasdale and Hey and Duxbury.   Gwyneth in Bridgnorth

Moorside was at, what we know, as The Mount OS Ref: 923477 1.25km due east of Booth Bridge, Thornton in C, 1.3km north east of Red Lion, Earby at top of Gayland's Lane which runs from, more or less, from opposite that renowned `watering' ground.

Many thanks Ted. That was a surprise, -as one of the ancestors I quoted , who was living in Earby Moorside in 1759, had moved to Kayfield in Barnoldswick by 1762. It has helped me see how and where to -my family moved.   He was a weaver- no surprise there!!   Gwyneth

I remember going to The Mount during the summer  during the  war (and maybe after)- they served teas, there was a swing from a large tree we could swing on - later a cousin of my friend - Hazel was her name moved there with her family

Gwyneth, I'm still furtling for the names you mentioned.  I found I had never done a collation of index entries for Hartley, no wonder, it's enormous.  I'm on with Duxbury at the moment, keep your eyes open, they are so big I'll probably post them in a topic of their own.

Stanley, I feel guilty at asking so much from you. The Hartley is a peripheral branch of mine, so please feel free to abandon it. I have realised now how many Hartleys there are in the area...Gwyneth

No, it's time I did the buggers.....  Have a look at the Duxbury file under bits and pieces of research, I've just posted it.  Don't feel guilty, I love helping.......

I've already looked at the Duxbury file, and can't thank you enough. The Earby area is new to me and I now have to learn all I can about it and the families there in the 18th century and later. Regards   Gwyneth

The main clues in the index entries are often that they indicate where the families originated.  Let me know what you come up with and then I can add it to the index.

Stanley, and all you others, Moh, Gloria etc. i just marvel at what you do for family history in your area. My family moved into the Nelson area in the 1800's so if I want to go further back I have to look in other places, but  I have yet to find a comparible site in terms of family history. Most just seem to give details of record offices or history soceity's but there are no details you can browse through on the site, as there are on here. We need to spread this fantastic example further afield so that other's can emulate it. I am able to find out more about the families that married into mine, the Proctors, the Hargreaves, the Nutters, the Fletchers etc than I can about the main branch.

I'll certainly let you know what I come up with eventually. Thanks yet again. Gwyneth
