Hi

Could you please tell me why I am having difficulty finding Haworth/Duckworth of Barlick on the Lancashire BMD.

Thank you.

Laurie Haworth.

Hello Laurie and Stanley,

My great great grandfather was James DUCKWORTH, the sawyer, mentioned on the 1851 census and living at Raikes Cottage  on the 1881 census.

He married Mary WIDDUP and they had 11 children:

Mary Ellen c1848

Ann c1849

John c1852

Jonathan c1853

 Harry c1854

 Hannah c1857

 Moses c1859

Micah 1860

Nelson c1862

Emily c1864

Amos c1868

On the 1861 census the family lived on Bridge Street, Barnoldswick and on the 1871 census they lived at Wellhouse Cottages, Barnoldswick.

James changed his occupation from Sawyer to Stone Quarry work between 1861 and 1871, and he reamins listed a s a quarryman on subsequent censuses - 1881 and 1891.

James could be the son of Jonathan DUCKWORTH and Ann as found on the 1841 census for Barnoldswick, as the age matches.

Stanley, can I ask what LTP is in your reference, as I believe that the Nelson DUCKWORTH mentioned would have been my great granduncle:

"c.1910
LTP; 78/AK/02, page 11. Emma Clarke said that Her sister Grace [b. 1887] had a young man called Nelson Duckworth who was connected with New Coates Mill and lived on Mitchell Terrace. His daughter Lillian died in 1977 a spinster. "

Nelson DUCKWORTH was widowed at the time of the 1901 census, and he lived at 1 Hartley Street, Barnoldswick with his daughter Lilly, who was then age 12.  At this time he was a 'Cotton Wind Dresser'

Hi Stanley

1891 Barnoldswick Census

Moses and Margaret Duckworth were my husbands great grand parents, their son Jim his grandfather.

I have quite a lot of information on this particular Duckworth family and will pass the info on as soon as my computer stops bumping me off line.

Laurie

Laurie,

It looks like your Moses DUCKWORTH was my great grandfather Micah's brother, and so making him my great granduncle!

Does this make your husband my third cousin??

Ben, it looks as though I never responded to your query about LTP.  This is the Lancashire Textile Project, you'll find it on the site if you look in forum home.  The reference is in Emma Clark's tape 79/AK/02 side two and here it is:

"Do you know, can you remember, any of the names of the people that were connected with the Coates folks?

R – Yes, yes I can.  There were Nelson Duckworth and he used to live down here in Mitchell Terrace and his daughter died nearly a year since, and she used to be my Sunday School teacher, and he was one of the partners.  She never married didn’t Lillian, she was a quiet little person.  Then there was somebody called, from Earby I think it was, I think they called him Pickles from. Earby.  But there were two or three, but I remember Nelson Duckworth quite well and he's been dead donkey's years."

She was talking about Coates Mill in Barlick and this would be in 1979.

Chrissy, no need to apologise! When you look at the number of times this topic has been accessed it's a wonder that there aren't even more replies. Just think, if only one percent of the viewers added to the topic it would be far more informative so post away and get it going again!

Thank you for digging, Stanley. I will check your findings against the zillions of Duckworths in my tree. I descend from the Rimington clan but some of the names are familiar. I can only boast one Haworth, however.
Thanks again.

It's a pleasure Barbara. Research needs spreading, it's like putting muck on a field, things grow so much better!

Hi Sue just that there are Widdups buried in the Inghamites. Also James Duckworth and some of his family. The only Howarth I can find is a Martha Ann who was living with Greenwood and Betty Hartley in 1861 age 15. She died a year later and is also at the Inghamites.

Hi Chrissyp,

Yes, I believe that the James Duckworth that you mentioned IS my James Duckworth!
Yes, I have him living at Stoops in 1851 also.

Where did you find the burial info for the Inghamite at Salterforth?

Many thanks.
Carole

Hi Carole, Got the info from the church records looked for the gravestone today but couldn't see it will look in the front yard for it. James born 1825 Lothersdale. Son of Johnathon and Ann Watson. Have a copy of the tree further back if you want more info. Think it was done by the "James from down south"
