I've been thinking of starting this topic for a while. Let's see how it goes....
Asked if he was in charge of the nation, in the absence of the Prime Minister - Mr Clegg told Metro: ‘Yeah, I suppose I am. I forgot about that.’

Bradder's: the words are correct albeit taken out of context from the rest of the sentence uttered, it was your interpretation that I queried and maybe I should have been clearer.

A worrying quote, the administrators Ernst & Young say that UK retail chains are closing 20 stores a day.

(too much time spent with lawyers)Firstly : This Topic is called "Quote of the day " , and not "What he meant to say was...."
Secondly : " albeit taken out of context "......It would seem to me that by attaching a link that showed the whole answer , that the remark was shown unequivically to be IN context......
As has been mentioned elsewhere , Dennis Skinner "skewerred " Cameron .....I can see no other interpretation....
Infront of a packed house and several million television viewers , the Prime Minister was shown to be a mealy mouthed and a stranger to the truth ...........

"Skewered" is open to interpretation by the audience
I thought Mr Skinner was a pale shadow of his former great proficiency at oratory
However, politics is usually all about language and miniscule points tweaked to score. Rarely about anything truthful or actually within the remit of the defender.
It usually has little effect on the running of the country, and when all is said and done, I would rather that BSKYB and the News International conglomerate were in the hands of Murdoch's shareholders than Robert Maxwell. The company is private, beholden to its shareholders, and if someone doesn't want to buy the product then there is no law which forces you to do so. If, however, it were the BBC then the issue would actually fall within the realms of the hoohaa currently running around the media.
I note today that the BBC is saying they have someone from Mirror Group saying hacking was rife within it
and without a sense of irony it quotes a "source" as corroborating a news story.
and a Guardian journalist saying that some hacking could actually be within the realms of public interest
The story is bigger than News International, and I hope that you will concede that Milibland has just as much to answer because Tom Baldwin has been named, plus some folk are trailing it back to Bad Al too,
If the Labour Government had actually dealt with their "friends" back in 2006 we might not actually be here, now.
I was always taught that when you point a finger at someone, you have to watch for the others on your hand that point back at you.

From Alberta Hunter, Blues singer and nurse - (aged 83) "A lttle lesson - when you have a dime, save a nickel. You are independent, you don't have to depend on anyone else. When you have money you can talk big.",

The only thing I can remember word for word that Alberta said to me was "Stanley, you're a dawg!!" I think I'd just told her she was sexy! (Alberta Hunter 1980)
As David Moore once said to me "Name-dropping is all right, but dropping hotel names is highly suspect!"

"You wait millions of years for a God Particle to come along and what do you get? Two at once!"
Reported on R4 this morning. I think it was the caption to a cartoon.

Kelvin Mckenzie remembering a newspaper headline. The story was about how northern women found it more difficult than men to get good jobs. The headline was "Discrim up North". Another headline from someone else was "Headless body found in topless bar". (Sorry, I probably should have put these in the jokes thread!)

No, they are quotes, just witty ones. I like the GKC one Belle, I think I can remember him being on the Brains Trust.....
Here's one that grabbed me yesterday. The Vatican spokesman in the edict that recalled the Irish Papal Nuncio back to Rome because of the Cloyne abuse cases. He ended with a comment on the fact that the IrishTaoiseach had attacked the Vatican. He said that the vatican reaction was "a certain note of surprise and regret".
What the hell did they expect! Reverential silence?

" Northerners' brains are bigger, a study shows . People living far North of the equator have developed bigger eyes – and brains – to cope with the dark, long winters and grey skies."
Don't get too excited you lot. It's based on a sample of only 55 skulls, and the "extra" brain power just suffices to enable you to cope in the dark! Sounds like one from The Instiute of Studies"
