Jack is making a lot of friends in Barlick. I don't know why, maybe it's his face markings but people on the street feel the need to stroke him. Women in particular fall for him.

As you know, I had a bad experience with Joe, the lurcher from Irlam. I was very wary about taking another feral dog on but I'm beginning to think that Jack will make it as a member of the team. He's good at coming to hand when off the lead but I'm not saying he'd take any notice if he was distracted.

He's fast and very agile and seems to have lungs as big as a bucket, I haven't heard him pant as though he's out of breath even after a hard run. As for jumping, he's like a cat. Here he is on his favourite perch. Someone asked me the other day why I don't stop him doing it. It's easier to clean the drainer twice a day!

[This topic started as Jack's blog but in Jan 2008 I had to put him down because he started attacking strange dogs.  His successor is Black Jack. a Patterdale pup, no point erasing Jack the Lurcher from history....  he was a good dog and what happened wasn't his fault.  He had too bad a start.....]

And no - I don't remember Lintox - what was it? Sounds a bit toxic!

It's easy when the subject is well behaved. He's a grand dog and every bit as friendly as he looks.............

Lintox was the standard cure for just about everything.  I can last remember it being about in the 1950s.  This advert is from 1925.

It was a pleasure. There is a high resolution copy of it that will print out much better, ask your dad nicely and I'm sure he'll email it to you.......

You've heard me talk about Jess the 3 year old Patterdale bitch I gave to John Ingoe 17 years ago and she's still alive and well.  Here's a pic of her.  She was as black as Jack when she was a pup.  A bit blind, deaf and bad-tempered but still enjoying life.  Full of character.......

Gloria, this pic was taken a couple of years ago but she is still alive and well and knocking on 21.  Wonderful little dog and she has never forgotten me.  She'd be about five weeks old when I got her after she had been abandoned on Old Bett's Moor.  It was touch and go rearing her but I think I must have done a good job.

Funny that I should post on this topic again.  ESP is cheaper than phone calls....

I had another poison-pen letter this morning.  Didn't upset me as much as the first because I was very raw then, this one has made me angry because it is obviously some sicko who can't get this out of his or her mind.

here is what it says....

what a cheek posing in the paper with your new pet has jack been forgotten now?  hope this one dosen't offend you in any way [SIC] you are a judas.

That's all, accompanied by a cutting of the masthead on my BET article.

Same language, almost certainly the same person.  Apart from telling my mates I did nothing about the last letter, just filed it and the envelope.  This time it's different.  I rang the police in case anyone else was getting them.  They are very interested for some reason.  They have asked me to put the letters and envelopes in separate plastic wallets and they are sending someone round.  Seems a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut but who knows whether anyone else is getting similar letters?

I don't know whether the person reads what goes on OG but if they do, get your act together and imagine a child scarred for life physically and emotionally after being attacked by a dog.  Then examine your conscience.  Sad old world isn't it at times......
