According to this weeks BET, there is a proposal by Maple Grove Developments (Preston) to create a Supermarket and Car Parking for 275 cars on the current Carlson Filtration site at Butts. Apparently, plans are already underway to create a new food store and car park. The plans are at an early stage and rest on obtaining planning permission and a successful re-location of the Carlson Filtration operations.
You can read the article in the Barnoldswick and Earby Times (BET) and comment on the article here:
www.pendletoday.co.uk
The development company is holding an exhibition of the proposed plans on Wednesday 30th Jan 2008 at the Rainhall Centre from 2.30pm to 7.30pm.
Good or bad idea, discuss..

The proposal should be turned down on access via Butts alone. The argument for access from the other end of Butts via Gisburn Road and Harper Street is also contentious. I can't see how they could modify this on appeal without some major demolition on Butts with the bottom few cottages on the right or the Pigeon Club (Union WMC)! It would be interesting to find out what the County Council Highways Department position was with regard to the traffic aspect of this proposal, they are ultimately responsible for the safety of the roads, their recommendation goes a long way in planning applications. I believe the proposal for housing at the Coates Wharf site was turned down by the planning committee on recommendation from the Highways Department on the safety of access, this decision was upheld on appeal also.

Hi all, new to this so hello and please be gentle!! I've just had some worrying news re this development, that being the final date for objections etc is the 20th February 08. I say worrying because the "Notice of Development" letter we received from Pendle Council (we live on Taylor Street) gives a final date of "9th June 2005". Whilst this clearly wrong, not knowing the planning system I assumed that 2005 should have read 2008. I am deeply concerned that this same letter may have gone out to numerous other households in the area and people may be sat back thinking they don't have to worry about making themselves heard just yet. I've been in touch with Pendle Council, their copy gives the correct info (no surprise there say the conspiracy theorists!). Maybe we need to spread the word on this and get as many people as possible to check THEIR letters??

Wonderful, a splendid shop. Yvonne thinks so as well, I was talking to her only the other day. I thought it was nice when you had your own torso in the upstairs window........ The display makes an old man very happy every time he walks past......

Does anyone know the date of the annual town meeting? The Town Council website does not have any details of meetings at the moment. I wonder if this is because they don't have a proper Town Clerk to update the details? There is a seious lack of information on the site at the moment. It should be very interesting to hear what the local councillors have to say under cross examination on the supermarket plan.

Information came my way yesterday that the letters being delivered to houses adjacent to the site inform the householders that their objections have to be in by June 2005. It would appear that this scheme has been in the making for a long time and it's possible that someone has blown the gaff by not altering the date on a boilerplate letter. In addition, the same informant, who is well connected to the council, tells me that the council admit that this scheme was floated over 18 months ago and the traffic surveys (which I knew nothing about) at that time were conducted with this in mind. I can't vouch for any of this, it is secondhand info. but it all fits. Like all these things, much more to it than meets the eye. Anyone who knows people affected by the scheme should make sure that they know they still have time to lodge formal objections with the planning people at Nelson Town Hall.

Worth asking..... Have we all lodged our formal objections? They have mine..... It's important to do it as this is the only route to getting heard.

I tried to do it online, but gave up after several attempts. It keeps returning an "Internal Error" message. |

It worked OK for me Cally, I put all the grounds for my objections in the comments box and submitted and got a thank you message.
