Here's a mystery for you. There isn't an answer yet because I don't know what it is. Here are two pics:

It's some sort of a gauge, made by A G Parker of 69 Icknield Street, Birmingham and on the front is engraved what I believe is the owner's name; Captain J H Square of Kingsbridge. I've put one or two enquiries out and am waiting to hear from them. I think it might be something to do with Guns because I have an idea that A G Parker was one of the founders of Parker-Hale, a company that specialised in gun sights and accessories. Has anyone ever seen anything like it?

So it could be a key to adjust the tension on a drum , or a brake cam on a car wheel or a water valve (fire hydrant ? )

It's easy ... It's for turning something !

(I once got thrown out of a pub quiz , because I  insisted that Mamma Cass died of heart failure....everybody does, after all , eh )

All sensible suggestions. The had news is that it's one of the things I have which are a mystery to me. I've shown ot to a lot of people and never got an answer. So I'm in the same boat as the rest of you, it's a true mystery object. Obviously made for some special purpose but what?

Bradders, it unnerves me that I had a similar fascination for Ribble buses as a child, my favourite destination name was Padiham for some reason!

Looks like part of a Stanley 57 plane set.

No Stanley 55. (I was thinking Heinz)

Catty was nearest. It's a Stanley 50 combination plane actually and I have the full set of cutters. Used for making fancy mouldings on the edge of timbers and superceded by the router.

Before you say "dead easy" I want an exact description of the items and an exact description of the piece of string they are hung on! (Comrade Nolic should get this...)

Comrade Nolic can only see belt buckles. He's lost about the string. Nolic

Is this not part of a horses harness..and is parcel string to silly a guess for the string..it's a bit nerve wracking venturing an answer when all this equipment is so technical!

There looks to be 3 Pig Rings in the picture as well as the buckles. I'm with Belle on the string, looks just like bog standard parcel string. Not sure on the concave discs, some kind of bosses with a loop at the back maybe?

Well there is a full set and the string is correct.
