Hi

I have quite a lot of information on the Sagars in Barnoldswick in 1800s but have come across a family line that I know nothing about.  Does anyone out there now of ERIC Sagar b 1910 (his middle name was BRUNSKILL) according to my source his parents were JOHN SAGAR b @ 1890 and JANE BRUNSKILL B 1890 Sedburgh.  I found a marriage on Free BDM for Jane Brunskill in 1909 Keighley but when I look for John Sagar marriage to Jane nothing comes up.  I believe JOHN's siblings are EDGAR  b 1881, ALICE b 1883 and IDA CONSTANCE b 1895 (she became an opera singer).  As usual with the Sagars I am going round and round in circles.  Any help would be great

Sue

If you put it on OS map and go a little way south down the road you can see Sagar Mill. You can then get an aerial view. I am pretty sure it was at one time the headquarters of Pontins and owned by Trevor Hemmings, I think the property still is. Ibzan Sagar was a manager of what is now Bygone Times, a little bit back up the road on the opposite side.

Hi sealrescuehorne,
I am Ibzan Sagars Great Grand daughter, was you working at the mill when my grandfather Wilfred Sagar was the manager there? It is called Bygone Times now, and there are some photos of the Sagar family displayed in there. Would really like to hear from you.

There were Sagar's living at Catlow Hall, Great Marsden, in the mid 1800s. They rented the hall from the Walton family of Marsden Hall, Gt Marsden, but could have afforded to buy the place as they were deemed to be wealthy at the time. They may have had connections with, or owned, one of the  Catlow quarries, but there is some doubt about that, but certainly a very notable family.

Hi

As The Carrington Centre Mill, The Green Eccleston will be demolished soon you may want to pay a visit / take photos.

Hope the links below are helpful.

Hello, I am new to the site. I am researching the Sagar branch of my family. Picking through previous comments I think I share Ibzan Sagar as an ancestor.. if I am right in thinking he was born in 1858 and died in 1943?

My great great grandmother was an Emma Sagar, born in Sabden and lived in Nelson but I have a scattering of ancestors in Barlick I know of so far....

If anyone can put me in touch with the "right people" to explore more I would be very appreciative.

Thanks

Hello, Do you mean Ibzan Sagar who lived at Eccleston and was the manager of Grove Mill which is now Bygone Times? If so then I am his great great grandaughter. The dates you have given for his birth and death sound about right but I can find that out from my mother who was his grandaughter.
