As there are a number of artists among our midst, I thought I would start a topic for watercolour painting.

Maz,I get what you say now, hehe,i was looking at the telegraph pole in the other picture, yes, all it needs is someone nailed to it....
Ian ,the black stuff gives me "insperation",is that the same as "flatulence"?,hehe...The method for the reflection was the same as the misty tree,a touch of white with the water and brush over lightly, but i used more water on the reflection with the odd touch up while it was still very wet, dont know if this is the prescribed method ,but it appears to work ....

I have been asked to put my last three watercolour painting pictures in an appropriate forum rather than just with the pictures.
I feel it is only fair to say that I was taught how to do these picutres by my excellent teacher Jeremy Ford. Whilst he has taught me, it is only the most recent CATBELLS that he had to actually had to add to my own as last week I was in so much pain that my brush just didn't want to go in the right direction. I did complete the picture myself the next day

I've only just picked up on this thread but I'm delighted that one of my photos (Calf Hall Sunset) has inspired someone! Nice job, Tom.
BTW: I later tickled this pic in Photoshop by taking out the telegraph pole and wires. I think Nolic is right to suggest they're omitted from the painting. I like the addition of the fence, Tom. However, you might want to experiment by having the fence go off at an angle, to give a bit more depth and lead the eye into the scene. At present it seems a bit like a barrier or prison fence!
I used to do a lot of painting in my younger days. Who knows, I might take it up again some day. The trouble is, I went to art college and had any natural talent knocked out of me... |

Cally,a mate was round at my house on Saturday night ,I told him ive discovered a new hobbie and i showed him the Calf hall picture ,he said he really liked it ,so i gave it him,I should have let you have it as a boat warming pressie(ive never sent anyone a boat warming pressie, hehe),it was a wonderful photo and a pleasure to paint...Thanks for the advice/critisism,all is welcome at the moment,in reguards to the prison fence, they do say "you paint what you feel"hehe...

Sorry I missed these before - as Nolic says in his blog the men & machinery photos soon shove evrything else off.

Sue,click on the picture you want, then right click over the pic,a list will appear, click properties at the bottom, there you will find the URL ,then copy and paste onto the box that comes up when you've clicked the tree thing, clear as mud,innit....
I totally agree Moh,but all the men and machine pics are posted on the site for topics,so the home page is only used as a tool to get them onto topic.just a thought but, take Gus for instance,he posts lots of wonderful pictures of people and life in Barlick,I think it would be a good idea to have a topic on ,"say"life in Barlick, then add all his pics onto the topic,it give more scope for comments and we find out more about the people in the pics,in my opinion the pics are somewhat wasted if they are not in a topic....

Never tried pastels although Sally has, she went to a class where they tried various different media and found she liked pastels best, nice to work with apparently, must have a go sometime.

Tom, what an inspiration you are, is there no talent that you do not possess.......!!!! I keep toying with the idea of having a go at watercolour, is it more forgiving than acrylics? Perhaps someone can point me in the right direction.
Is the start point to sketch in pencil, any help appeciated.
