As there seems to be quite a bit of artistic talent around here, I thought I would start a pencil sketch section .....

well done!! thanks stanley, i dont think it will add sells though belle as i have not tagged anything here as this is my secret place with my wise crumblies hehe
having a bad bad day, really fed up. started drawing some penquins, but ive done them too small so i got frustrated with them and have chucked them to the side, so rather than waste more time ive picked stephen back up, cracking on with his hair,

pingu.... i used to love him LOL these were king penquins but the drawing was too small, i wasted half a day on that
anyway ive got to forget the penquins as i need to get a commission done, so ive been working on that today. car tax and insurance is creeping up on me.

I like this, the grass, the bits of pollen or whatever sticking to the dog...I am assuming the dark bits on the body of the dog are lighter than the head because that is it's colouring?

belle, ive looked back at this drawing and i have decided there are a few things i need to go back and have a tinker with,
your right the body does look a bit too light against his head though the dog is lighter than his head, the bits that are black i need to make blacker to balance him a bit better. mum and dad said the same as you but thankyou again for being honest with what you think, i appreciate it x

Some times it not about how it really is but what looks right...and often it's a small tweak that sorts it..just in the middle of some cows myself but it's time to stop and put it away till tommorrow..and a new head.

ok, done some tweeking and im alot happier now, added another blade of grass to the bottom left with snow so hopefully now it does look like the dog is dusted in snow falling, and ive darkend the already dark bits just to bring the shade of black the same as the head, which i should of done in the first place.
gone back to stephen fry, working on the stubble on his chin, its coming together, but im going to have the afternoon off out with mum and my nan and gramp, think a bit of spoling me will do them good haha i can hope!!

It's amazing what a difference a tweak can make isn't it? i have spent to day finishing a commission but i am too close to it to tweak it any more so it will have to go somewhere where I won't look at it for a day or so then I can see it with new eyes...first time I've ever attempted cows..not sure what I think!

do you ever try holding it up to a mirror belle to check it? i always find so many things seeing it that way. i think after a day or two when you have another look, i think you will see a few things that are not quite right, i dont think i am experienced enough to crique your work but i can see a few things that are not right to my eye. but like you said when you go back they will all jump out at you so you can do the tweeking i went to see Micheal Cooper today in his Art Studio i dont know if you have heard of him, he is well known for his farmyard animals he must be on the web somewhere he has some really good work. very much like the kind of painting you are working on belle.

Yes I always hold it up in a mirror ..helps see the symetry etc. It's not finished yet but it will never have the photograph like quality your patience produces as i like to work quickly and capture a moment if i can. I think I have managed to capture the movement in the front cow, both sudden head raising and slight threatning tiny move forward.. The photograph is so dark it's almost impossible to see any details at all in this cow so i have had to use imagination ..the "quite right" for this client is an essence of cow picture not a portrait of an actual animal. This is an amalgamation of images so i am hoping rest from looking at it will tell me better where to go next, and how well it is marrying together as a whole. I am trying to keep away from detailed precision in order to keep it more lively if possible..just had a quick look at Michael Cooper, i want something little less still, as the desired result.
