I went up Letcliffe today in the sunshine with the birds singing and only a light breeze from the NW to spoil things so I decided you were right and it's probably about time we started to be optimistic.  However.....  have you seen the forecast for Easter?

It was pissing down in Barlick at 02:00 when Jack woke me with the squits....  (why do we bother with dogs?)  Heavy overcast and light rain as I write at 07:00 and strange thing is that it's coming out of the East, weird weather, this is the dry quarter.  Forecast is terrible and we are on the verge of trouble in some parts even in Barlick on the watershed.  Not good, I'm glad I live in a good part of the town, well-drained.

Lucky that they have left Wales Cathy, it seems that Wales is getting the worst of the weather.
I see Tenbury Wells was evacuated.

We are lucky where we are, our bungalow is on high ground. Some of the country lanes nearby are flooding though.

Gillians Beck on Forty Steps feeding down to the town.  I've see it worse than this and as I write a patch of brief sun shines in but showers are still rolling in but nothing too heavy.  Glass is very low, we are under the low.

I can actually see the hills way beyond Oldham from my bedroom window today but every where looks less than promising

Looks like  forecast was right. It was cracking the flags here 15 minutes since. We're in for one of the wetter patches any time now though. Nolic

Language StanleySurprised
It is doing as Nolic says - heavy rain and now blue sky and sunshine.  It rained very heavily on and off all night with quite a strong wind.

Moh, Stanley was only using the language of our dear Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alastair Darling, who used it (or more precisely a variant of it ending in "off") in a public speech or statement last week!

Nolic, those wer' days, when t' sun cracked flags!

Quite Tizer......  If it's good enough for the Little Daring it's good enough for me.  Managed a walk up to Letcliffe in sunshine at 10:30 to 11:30.  Am witing for a lull in the rain for a quick trot now.....

If you are to have what we have experienced for the last half hour or so...good luck! I have never seen our street so fast-flowing. I thought I was going to have to rescue the fish from the garden pond as it was in danger of over-flow!

My mum and dad have a leak in their living room...dad has a bucket in the loft now.

Well we've had our bit of spring sun for a day or two, woke up to rain and an overcast sky this morning.  When I went for a walk to get the sunday paper, I could hear the water flowing in the drains, it must have rained all night.  Everywhere looks cleans and smells lovely, and flowers and blossom are starting to appear.   Smile

All thru the fields and meadows gay  ....  Enjoy

Mags says it is nice in Perth as well.  Not so good in the Carribean, another hurrican marching across the region.  Met Office says that many parts of the country have had their average annual rainfall already, anything else is a bonus.  Barlick is sodden but flood free thank God.  I saw some funny places mantioned as victims yesterday, Marpeth and Stockport for example.  The cause in all cases is drains being overwhelmed.  Too much tarmac and concrete for them to be able to cope with accellerated run-off.  Time we spent some money instead of relying on the Victorian infrastructure.  Mel, many people are finding the prolongued rain has shown up small leaks that have gone in-noticed.  Nice to have a brand new roof after the big refurb of East Hill Street last year.  No problems and no worries.  Sound slates, good flashing and new rainwater goods.  A good position to be in when it's raing like this.

Wet again this morning, I heard the rain last night but we have been fortunate down in East Anglia and we haven't had as much rain as the rest of you, however our water table is rising, and it isn't very low at the best of times. We'll be bobbing for windfall apples at this rate!

Later.....  Back from our morning inspection of the town.  Butts Beck has fallen a bit and many puddles have gone but it is raining again as I write.  Jack is emptied and filled with breakfast.  I shall wait until Doc and I get to my mate's at Rochdale, bacon butties have been ordered!   I thought I saw the tail end of a skein of geese flying over the town two days ago, a certain sign of Autumn.  Saw a big one this morning flying towards the South West, probably Whitemoor reservoir.  I love the way they honk to each other to keep in touch as they fly.

Got a good walk with Misty first thing. First time in a week that we've been dry in a morning. By the time I took C to work at 7.45 it was raining again. Nolic
