Why is it - people who are at home all week decide to cut their lawns on Sunday afternoon/evening?  Relaxing in the garden today  - neighbours decide to cut their lawn with noisy lawn mowers.    I know the people who work are limited but there should be a law against spoiling the peace - there seem to be laws agaist everything else

BBQing properly is an art, we now do not get smoke or burnt offerings and I do most of my cooking on the BBQ even bacon and eggs on a sunday morning.

Our BBQ is gas connected to the mains (so that we never run out) and Mick keeps it really clean.  We find it was just one side of the bbq that caused smoke and burnt offerings so we replaced it with a solid "griddle" rather than one with bars.  To clean it Mick covers the bbq with salt and gets it really hot so that it absorbs all the black fatty deposits, then he scrapes it off and lets it get really hot and then pours water on it and lets it boil and scrapes it off into the fat collecting tray underneath which is filled with sand or fat absorbing crystals (a bit like cat litter).

With ordinary charcoal grills the trick is to wait until the coals go white and look like ash.  Always have a prayer filled with good beer handy and kill burning fat as soon as it starts.  That way all you get is heat and the smell of cooking meat.  It's still full of carcinogens of course but tastes nice and doesn't offend the neighbours.  H, the cure for the burglar alarm is a .303 rifle.  One bullet through the case will stop it sounding.....  Mind you.........

Maybe Deadly has Aussie blood in him. He barb b ques beautifully ...oh that sounds like I am turning him on a spit as we speak!....what I mean is he is very good at it. He never burns anything, or produces smoke, he certainly wouldn't resort to gas, as he is a natural with wood....can cook anything anywhere, perfectly....

We cannot use charcoal etc when there is a fire ban (which is usually from November to March), at least with gas you can turn it off and out go the flames straight away.

We had a gas one but we did not get the same flavour as you do with charcoal.
