I have two screen shots of the ruined cottage and another of the cat skeleton - taken from the BBC's North-West Tonight programme, but don't know whether I can put the pictures on here. Anyone know ?

They need to be JPG, GIF or PNG format or the upload interface will not accept them. Where did you take the screenshots from? If it was on the computer paste them into MS Paint and save out as a JPG. Watch the size though, you may need to shove them through some app such as Irfanview or anything else you may have that will resize.

Probably much the same report , if placing a cats body in a house wall to ward off evil spirts then it presumably isnt a witchs property ?
The Views above may or may not be true , I may or may not agree with them. |

Or add a description such as:
BBC news report on the buried cottage
and use the text as a hyperlink.

Whippy makes an interesting point but we should remember that 'witches' were just people that locals thought had magical powers. However they were probably just as superstitious as anyone else and would use charms to ward of 'evil'.

I too immediately thought of BJ when I heard the report earlier in the week. It would be interesting to hear his take. Will he be popping on Stanley?

Thanks panbiker, ok I will put the three photos I got (quickly) from my tv screen (hence screen shots) there are JPG format and are different to those in your link. I was extremely lucky to get the shots as the article was only on a couple of minutes.

Well the same rubbish has been in most papers. Obviously it must be Malkin Tower - Simon says so. 17th century cottage? that means 1600 plus? Those rich witches (executed 1612 at - for then - a ripe old age) obviously could afford a brand new building - or maybe (being non-human) they could have lived in it after they'd been hung.
Anyway good publicity for the 400th Anniversary next year - congratulations to Pendle Tourism for arranging it!!!

Not a bad take BB. Mel, I doubt if he'll trust himself to be temperate if he does. He is not impressed!

Hi John, Welcome back to OGFB we will try and reply to your messages without being too silly, hopefully. Got your photos of Boulsworth, thanks. You are probably correct in what you say about Malkin Tower, or what many think is the real Malkin Tower - its thought very doubtful now. Ray.

Mel, like me, John takes his history seriously and slowly. He is also careful to avoid controversy. As for coming back to the site, he never went away!

Two photos of the recently excavated 'witches cottage' courtesy of John Belbin of Colne who is a contributor on here - he wanted me to put the photos on for people have a look at. Thanks John.
