As there seems to be quite a bit of artistic talent around here, I thought I would start a pencil sketch section .....

Very impressive Conor. If Stephen Fry asks you to sculpt his head get him to buy the clay for you by the tonne. Nolic

Conty, Have a look at the work done in my art class, it's all pastels ("you may be interested to know" topic), you can achieve a good degree of detail with them, just takes practice.
This morning  I had a quick bash at the kolarabi i took yesterday, ..well it's not fair to ask people to try something if your not prepared to try it yourself eh? (I actually took it for the smooth end!) it wil give you an idea of the scope of pastels.

Are you sure it's not a celeriac rather than a kohlrabi?

you don't need a link Coonty, its a "one guy"  topic.Go to the "one guy from Barlick" sign at the top left of this page, click on it and it will take you to the home page fo the "chat " section then click on the topic "You may be interested to know". you can either start form the begining and look through it (it covers the two classes i' ve run since nov last year) or go to the last page.
Tripps yes, you're right! i obviously thought it needed a more difficult name!!!

Realised I could stick it on here....but if you want to see how the class got on with the first day which was faces, and the still life yesterday have look at the topic. I was trying to do this whilst getting the washing on and having my breakfast, brainache took over at this point so i stopped, there is more I could have done but just wanted you to see how versatile pastel can be. I have been using it as a medium in my classes for years because it's correctible, portable and doesn't need colour mixing, so you can just get on and "paint".

It's a root vegetable avout as big as a large turnip here is a photo of it, not in quite the same position and not the same light on it. No flash so bit darker than with the naked eye.

Finished Dyson, fingers crossed Dysons owners like it. now back to the clay modelling of gramps head.

stanley revision is left for the weekend if i do any, seriously considering not going back. ive had a week of talking it through with everyone (all the family) and my old art teacher, and i know ive not said anything before here, but i am so unhappy staying at school i cant tell you.
everyone involved are behind me and not one has said i am doing the wrong thing. i have a number of things up my sleeve and a few different ideas that i am still to explore, even education  maybe a BA, but its all still in the thinking tank for a least another week till i have to make my mind up
