Hello Agnes, as always the IGI must be treated as a guide only, not as fact.
Here is what I can find from the Thornton Records. Again formatting will be a problem:
I can find NO reference to the burial of Joseph Bailey
I can find his marriage:
From Thornton in Craven marriages 1813 - 1837
1825/09/29, marriage Joseph Bailey of this Parish To Mary Tillotson (B)
witnesses Mathew Whitoack, William Berry
1825/09/29, marriage Mary Tillotson of this Parish To Joseph Bailey
wit Mathew Whitoack, William Berry
I also find Mary Baileys Marriage to John Whiteoak:
From Thornton in Craven marriages 1837-1873
1847/02/22 marriage John Whiteoak Age 44, widower,
occupation, labourer, Living at Higher Vargus
To Mary Bailey (B) witnesses Joseph Smith, Christopher Brown
father John Whiteoak, occupation of father farmer
1847/02/22 marriage Mary Bailey age 36, widdow, living at Harden
to John Whiteoak (B) witnesses Joseph Smith, Christopher Brown
father: William Whitaker, fathers occupation: labourer
Look at Mary Tillotson / Bailey's father is quoted on this second marriage, her father is a William Whitaker,
Hope this is of use regards
john
