Phil, one small point, if you start a topic with a big slab it is there forever. In normal topics where there can be many page reads and responses  best to keep opening post short so you don't have to scroll down every time it is opened.

I see you are re-sizing your pictures Phil. If you preserve the aspect ratio and set the width to be somewhre around 600 - 700 pixels the pics will be just the right size for the topic.

ThanksStanley,
I was just practising the photo uploading mechanism as i wanted to be familiar with  it before I launched the Topic.

Ian,
Thanks for the info on aspect ratio I'll play with that one too, I need to get familiar with posting techniques on this site, hence my practise shots here, any other relavant suggestions are equally welcome, i'll certainly take them on board.
My initial draft is on Word so any advice on pasting from word, or otherwise copying from word, would be appreciated.
I know a lot of you are Ubuntu fans but at the moment Word is the working medium, so any advice or suggestions would be welcome.

Thank you both for your help,I'll take it on board.

Phil

If I have a bit to write, I tend to do my pre-posting composition in a basic text editor such as Notepad on Windows based systems. This is so that the basic text is not cluttered with application specific formatting commands. If you usea basic text editor all you get is the text you type and carriage returns which the reply box can cope with without undue problems. You can then complete with any emphasis or formatting you require using the tools in the reply box. Word can be a bit iffy from time to time and dump the normally hidden formatting commands into the post as well. Stanley has been plagued by this in the past.
