It never ceases to amaze me 'just how quickly' TV stations can put together a tribute show together when someone famous dies.  Michael Jackson died yesterday morning (Australian time) and tonight on our screens we have had a 1 and a 1/2 hr show of his life.  It concentrated on his music from 1967 till now, and was very well done.  (Does the media lie in wait??)
I love the fact that Michael Jackson was never taught how to dance, but when he danced he became the beat of the music.    (I wistfully imagine that a deaf person would almost be able to hear (or feel) the beat, just by watching him.)  Many celebrities have posted tributes, one being Paul McCartney saying what a gentle and loving man Michael was, considering The Beatles catalogue of music and Michael's involvement, I'd say the same about Paul.

We'll never see the originality of MJ's genius again.   Such a pity his money wasn't managed better, and that he was (appeared to be) emotionally immature, his life echoed Elvis Presley's in some ways.

With his music, dancing, video's and concert's, he certainly knew how to attract our attention.  He was cutting edge and original.

I have wonderful memories of a girlfriend and myself  (teenage years) listening to 'single' records of Ben, I'll Be There, ABC/easy as 123, over and over (and over) again, on her record player.

On Sunday night our 60minutes are showing a special of MJ's life and career, which I think will show the bizarre side of MJ, as well as his music, but even so, you know what music does to you, it's not so much the artist themselves, it's the memories of where you were, what you were doing, who you were with, etc.,  that you remember thru their songs.

All we ever really know about an artist (unless you know them personally) is what they choose to pass on to us, and their 'image'.

Some people (I believe) are especially sent to us, and MJ was one of them.

Cathy people so talented like that seem to lack in other ways. I often wonder if there are linked genes in our DNA, such that if the gene for extreme talented is always ( nearly always inherited with) with emotional instability. Tiz will understand what i am saying

I agree with you Sue. I sometimes think that true genius can carry a terrible price.

I could go on and on about: parents, isolation, enforced environment, power, ego, persona's, yes-men, paparazzi, adulation, insecurities  etc.  Lot's more to come out yet, and lots of people will want their 15mins of fame.  But, what a waste and so sad.
