Jack is making a lot of friends in Barlick. I don't know why, maybe it's his face markings but people on the street feel the need to stroke him. Women in particular fall for him.

As you know, I had a bad experience with Joe, the lurcher from Irlam. I was very wary about taking another feral dog on but I'm beginning to think that Jack will make it as a member of the team. He's good at coming to hand when off the lead but I'm not saying he'd take any notice if he was distracted.

He's fast and very agile and seems to have lungs as big as a bucket, I haven't heard him pant as though he's out of breath even after a hard run. As for jumping, he's like a cat. Here he is on his favourite perch. Someone asked me the other day why I don't stop him doing it. It's easier to clean the drainer twice a day!

[This topic started as Jack's blog but in Jan 2008 I had to put him down because he started attacking strange dogs.  His successor is Black Jack. a Patterdale pup, no point erasing Jack the Lurcher from history....  he was a good dog and what happened wasn't his fault.  He had too bad a start.....]

....... Stanley, I'm considering asking you to take me for a walk if it means I get to make new pals!

When you arent working it really is quite hard to make contact with like minded people on moving to a new area!

So, Ive learnt to sit when told, I dont bark unnecessarily and I am perfectly housetrained!

....... Fetches leash and waits expectantly!

The secret is plenty of eyeshadow, look sad and lick everyone you meet...... Oh, and wag your tail! Youll have to work the last one out for yourself!

I think if I were to take your advice Stanley my guess is that the only new friends I'd be making would be wearing blue uniforms and carrying handcuffs!

As for Jack and the binoculars ........... perhaps he thought he would save your little legs and assist you with the location of 'Mona's Seat' from his vantage point on the draining board!

Don't waste money buying expensive binoculars. Simply stand closer to the
object you wish to view.

Shhhh! If Jack reads this he'll think it was OK to eat them! Luckily I have my old ones, much heavier though.... I shall lose even more weight. I use them mainly for doing inspections of chimneys so the advice to get a bit closer isn't terribly helpful! I've decided that my chimney climbing days are over. Reality has to creep in eventually bbut it feels like giving in to old age!

Stanley, your right .... it is giving in and you must resist ..... get your ladders out and remember it's only mind over matter!

...... I'd also like to point out that I certainly don't 'Yap' and the next time that nasty man appears at my door wanting a brew he can take his 'dangerous' mutt back home with him and make his own!

Sorry Stevie, you're wrong about chimney climbing. When the day comes that you feel you are past it you stop. Getting cramp or a dizzy spell 200 feet up a ldder is no laughing matter and common sense prevails. I went on the roof the other day to replace part of my TV aerial that the Jackdaws had pulled off and was glad when I was back on Terra Firma. I'll find a pic that will convince you and put it on the site....

Posted. Have a search for Ellenroad chimney. Note the highly polished Tricker boots.....

I have to report a terrible mistake has been made. Noting how tuned in Jack was to whistles and sounds I got him a plastic hamburger that squeaks.....

He's driving me daft with it. Trouble is when I confiscate it he moans in the corner. I reckon the novelty will wear off but Oh God, how long!

When my old dad died the Guide Dogs Association allowed me to keep his aged Labrador/Retriever cross. The dog used to have a wonderful time chewing a squeaky rubber toy which drove me mad up to the point that I often thought about taking it away. Each time I relented, content that the dog was chewing hell out of a Spitting Image toy of Maggie Thatcher. Continuous supplies of new models were made available as each was destroyed.

Wonderful, I want one for Jack. (TB would do as well) Katie, don't worry, grandad was forced to give him his bburger 'cause he moaned and that was worse than the squeak!

Great to hear news of how content Jack appears to be these days.

We have no problem with squeaky toys for our dogs as on average the 'squeak' lasts about 30 seconds before the dogs have removed them. Thinking about it the toys often dont last much longer either!Go to Top of Page
