Article on BBC website re the Pendle Witches trial, and how it made legal history, with evidence from Jennet, a child, being accepted by the court. Also a picture of a lovely tour bus.
I take it that BCNJTC buses have changed their colours?

Film was on BBC4 last night Cloggy.
A cloud no bigger than a man's hand has appeared on the horizon this morning and Ossie would do well to take heed of it, the bankers certainly will. The European Central Bank has lent a European bank $500million. Most unusual because normally the bank would have got this from a US bank but it is obvious that either they didn't trust the loan or asked too high an interest rate because of distrust of the Euro. It was lack of trust in the banking system that triggered Lehman Brothers collapse and the credit crunch. Watch this space very carefully, a sign of fraught financial times.

The 'Pendle Witch Child' programme has just come up for downloading on UKNova, with a 9 hour delay. I'll be able to download this evening, and watch some time tomorrow. Something to look forward to.

Christopher Basson (Lib Dem), claimed he had “depression and anxiety” in order to gain £12,000 in incapacity benefit, while pocketing a further £26,000 as a Camden councillor.

In a fairer world, the 100 or so students I spent three hours amongst on thurs morning, many in tears, all running up huge phone bills trying to work out if they had a place at uni or not, and the hundreds of others like them accross the country, would sue UCAS for the exasperation and distress they caused! It's hard to imagine anyone running a website which has already counted and communicated with the numbers planning to go to uni and been specifically designed to feed the results to them, would be so inept as to not be able to cope when the numbers logged on!

Absolutely right Belle and note that nobody seemed surprised by their explanation.
This pic posted by Gus grabbed me. Nice one. Never seen it before. It must be pre 1914 as the Majestic complex isn't marked on it.

R4's Any Questions came from Nelson. No local questions: like the enterprise zone allocations.
@Belle, 4 times last years traffic, something was bound to give. Maybe the issue is not the "surge" but the actual management of people's expectation's
I understand it takes at least 24 hours for stuff to get updated, and clearing can't start until all those in the system have been dealt with.
Plus, maybe someone would like to put a cost on the employment of all those extra people to meet a 1 day demand? or maybe we need a little more tolerance and patience?
My son got 2A's and a B but didn't even get an offer 1st time around, so he knows he's already applying next year.

Tardis, what I am referring to is that the same website has logged all these students right through out the year, it already knew the number to expect... people can't just suddenly decide to go to uni on results day if they haven't alread logged into the ucas system and gone through the run up process, so that amount of traffic was not unexpected..and I was not referring to clearing but that no one who had borderliine fails and other choices waiting could find out if their first choice had acepted them or not, as is sometimes the case, in the end it was like the stock exchange with people so worried they were going to end up without a place they were grabbing the first thing that came up. Perhaps you didn't understand the situation.

Belle, the University vice chancellors agree with you, they're asking awkward questions as well about capacity. Patience isn't an option when you are in a race to get your future settled. UCAS see themselves as an Ivory Castle and not a service. They have been overdue for radical reform for years.
Rebels fighting on the streets of Tripoli. The end game for Gadafi? Syria next? Perhaps not, nobody can afford it!

Tory Blair in The Observer speaking sense for the first time in analysis of the recent riots. Says it's not a moral breakdown of society that we should wring our hands and claim we can do little about it whilst the situation worsens but a strata of disaffected youth from disaffected families who can be idfentified in all communities and are at odds wiith those communities, schools, police etc Target them and you target the problem.
Pretty sound Tory so why were you not so astute in governement? Nolic
