Oh Dear..Frank , I'm  sorry to have to point this out , and I do so with no motive to provoke any more nasty come-backs....

Firstly.....Your post of 21/12/2010  (20:05:15)...... "No Dr is on a salary of under £100,000 a year in Scotland " ........You are only NOW saying "G.P."

One becomes a Doctor on completion of a long course of medical training......To become a G.P. you have to continue your studies and qualify further....

Hence DOCTORS earn far less than £100,000 p.a.......and there are plenty of them....(my son -in - law is one of them !).

Secondly ....I would refer you to your post of 22/12/2010 (08:59:28 )....

And I quote " Look up Ponzi , that is what the NHS is ....."

 or am I mistaken ?

I know there has been a lot of bickering on this topic , and it is regrettable , but I honestly feel that you should not be allowed to get away with posting nonsense........Sorry !

Thought I might try and answer all your political worries at once, I do so love having the last word, and this on is so apt:

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
   Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
   Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
   there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
   and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
   with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the LORD Almighty
   will accomplish this.

The terrible face of Kate on the coin caught my attention, the artist must not have ever seen her before creating such a distorted image.

Colin is quite right, when the spleen level reaches red on the scale, get on with something else and come back with another thread. As for one opinion, who can that be?

Belle, I listened to the Bishop of London doing his Christmas thought for the day this morning and he should take a leaf out of your book. He was sooooo depressing!

Herb, I saw the coin on TV last night and I have to say that if they hadn't put the lettering on the coin I wouldn't have recognised either of them. (Not that I spend a lot of time looking at pics of them)

Enjoying Campbell on Nye Bevan. Very clear-sighted account of him with some wonderful quotations. I Knew he was a maverick all his life but didn't realise just how far off beam he was at times. Not damaging my opinion of him but good to be reminded of his faults. It always puzzled me why Labour were initially against rearmament before WW2. I see what the reasoning was now, I still think it was flawed but of course I have the advantage of hindsight. A difficult period. I have a much clearer picture of Chamberlain now as well.

Did you see the news item about the woman mauled to death by her Belgian Mastiff? I don't understand why people put themselves in that position.  The first uncharitable thought that came to my mind was that at least it hadn't killed a child or a stranger. A bizarre reaction that surprised me but when you think about it..... [More news later, not clear now if it was her dog and there was a pup in the same house. I wonder if the dog was seeing some danger to the pup?]

Now then, must give some thought to making the perfect hot beef butty for Susan tomorrow for Chritmas dinner. Her sisters tell me she is looking forward to spending the time with me. Nice, not a bad result after 45 years of knowing all my faults! Now there's an opinion I can live with.

So I am man enough to make a minor correction, the points still stands though. I thought GPs were Doctors ??. NI still funds the NHS along with General Taxation does it not ???.
Sorry Bradders but you can't escape this one. Every economist will tell you what a ponzi system is, and the N I take is the largest in the world.

G.P.s are Doctors , but they are specially trained Doctors .......They are not the "also rans" who didn't go on to be Consultants.....It takes , several years of extra study . ( I refer you to paragraph 3 on the following link )

http://www.nhscareers.nhs.uk/details/Default.aspx?Id=561

....and a final word from me  on your assertion about PONZI .....

This is a Criminal activity (vis. Bernard Madoff 's recent 100+ years jail sentence)

Who would you propose to proscute , if you are correct in what you say.?

I'd be a lot cheerier if I didn't have a small pile of unopened Xmas cards. I promise I'll do them this afternoon and make some calls! Front room fire cleaned out and ready for tonight and tomorrow. Beef sits in brine in the workshop. Jack sits in my rocking chair waiting for his midday walk. His mince for the week simmers on the stove and a loaf is almost ready to come out of the machine. All is well with the world. (Nye Bevan this afternoon after the cards!)

Frank, I loved your Conservative versus Socialist Christmas Wishes. Very funny, I'm glad that I'm non-party, it means I can enjoy all the jokes no matter who they target!

Callunna's post caught my attention today: "Cherish Life it can be taken away in an instant".

Today, I received news of the death of one of the best bosses I had the privilege of working for.  We last spoke 9 months ago, even though I left the company nearly 30 years ago. Thanks David - you made a difference!

Funny how you seem to hear of more deaths at Xmas. Probably because many people only communicate at this time. Xmas cards usually bring the news in!

Daughter Susan walked six miles there and back in the snow to have Xmas Dinner with me. Impressive!
