I have a penny black stamp on an original folder dated 1840 and sent to a solicitor in Colne (his descendant gave it to me when I worked for him). Has anyone any idea what it might be worth?

What date in 1840? If 6 May then it might be worth £500 if in mint condition, but if used and in poor condition then maybe only £5. They were only in use for a year before being replaced by the Penny Red.

I'm not a philatelist - I got this info from Wikipedia:

Penny Black info - Wikipedia

There are quite a few offered on eBay, in the above price range.Go to Top of Page
