New Year, new topic. If you want to see the old one do a forum search for same title but 2008.

Even less of a surprise. What I read was that it wasn't an officer but a squaddie in his platoon. Nolic

Read in the paper this morning that the Wedgewood and Waterford Factory is closing operations due to the Global Financial Crisis . What a shame...all that history!
(was mentally searching my cupboards in case I have any Wedgewood or waterford...we have given some as gifts but I can't think if we actually own anything ourselves!)

Tripps, One of the banks we deal with likes to list the interest rates for its accounts at the bottom of every statement. Last month's statement had a list with figures like 5% which surprised me when the bank rate is so low now. Then I looked more closely - the list was headed "Interest rates 2006". Perhaps they are doing it for nostalgia's sake, a bit like "Best of Morecambe & Wise" etc? We can all then say "Oooh, do you remember 2006, rates at 5%!"

What the surprise is with Prince Harry is that this has taken 3 years to emerge !!!  I think the newspaper in question just save these up for non news days.

Just had a couple of e-mails from Schlund + Partner AG aka oneandone.co.uk aka the outfit that hosts this site who registered a couple of domains for me.   2 e-mails, 2 domains. Each with 2 attachments one for an invoice and one a credit note for the same domain.  The figures are compleley screwed up,  The Invoices have 2 VAT entries one for 17.5%, one for 15% neither of which are correct and they are added together onto the total. The credit note is for one with 17.5% which is correct but its a higher figure than the Invoice.

OK, they screwed up the VAT on the invoices, but they obviously found it before they sent the email because the credit note is in the same e-mail.  So why bother sending it at all ?  Particularly since the invoices are nonsense in the first place. It still wouldn't be too bad (if you're an eternal optimist) except one of the domains isn't due until May 2009 and the other for November 2009......

Me thinks I'll renew them with someone else.

Too bad that the "royals" can't  win.  They are too "uppity", but not allowed to be like the rest of us.

Latest BS from Palestinian authority is that they will not talk peace until Israel withdraw and stop hostilities.  How can they allow their people to suffer this way........quit firing rockets............Israel withdraws..............then they negotiate long term.  How can you hope to have peace with people that think martyrdom is a free ticket to nirvana, easy chair, large tv, all the luxury they don't have at home.

Why do the UK, US, Canada etc continue to cosy up to Iran.....OH I FORGOT....OIL!!!!!

Just watched the video of Harry.  Actually quite funny and all so typical of a group of soldiers.  He sends his love to the corgis, makes fun of RAF admin. and confirms the colour of his "pubies".  Sounds like a good lad!

Just found the web portal site  www.paki.com
Worth a look I'd say, to anyone who thinks that "the P word" is in any way offensive to Pakistanis.

I don't care whether the soldier liked his nickname or not. All officers will be reminded that in matters like this they should be examples to their men. Harry ignored this. End of story. I don't hate many things but use of class and undeserved privilage to belittle people is always wrong end of story. The lad didn't look too happy to me. Easiest way to cure the problem is abolish class and undeserved privilege.

Stanley you on your republican band waggon??????. Harry is a young man who has already served in Afghanistan.  I don't see any reason to believe he has used his position  to gain anything.
ps Tony Blair was responsible for killing thousand of people in Iraq he just said sorry, and that was the end of it. Why not the same for this young man ?? he has said sorry that should be the end of it. By the way is someone from Pakistan not a Paki as someone from Scotland is Scottish.  Paki only has a racist connection when it is used in a particular context which in this case it clearly wasn't.

No doubt our pc brethren will foam at the mouth, but this sof can't see the difference between calling a Yorkshireman a Yorkie or a Lancastrian a Lanky and the description given to someone coming from Pakistan. Surely the context it was said in could only cause offence.

Whether folk are happy or not, terms like Paki and raghead are not acceptable today.  As are such terms as spastic, mong or biff for anyone disabled.  I agree with Armando Ianucci who noted that we are better nation now that asking spastics to remain on the train for the Paki guard to help them off is never heard - 30-40 years ago, no one would have batted an eyelid.

Only a fool would think that such terms are not routinely used by many though.  Unfortunately for Harry, while it might go on all over the place, we expect rather better of him, due to the privileges that are his birthright.  And while this birthright might be none of his fault, there is a very simple remedy for him.  Indeed, the best argument I know for doing away with this family, is to save them as human beings from this institution.

He should be allowed to fall in the gutter as much as wants, feel up as many cheap tarts in Bouji's as he wishes, and speak as he sees fit, without fear of any more censure than the rest of us would get doing the same.

Unfortunately for him, he can't.

As to whether this is all PC nonsense, well I'm afraid I don't even know what 'Political Correctness' means.  It's a meaningless phrase.  And anyway, the f-word and the c-word were quite acceptable words 200/300 years ago (look up some of the street names of old London), as was deflowering 13 year girls (read Pepys).  But things change.

It's called progress
