Here's a short poem which I found in a newspaper some years ago ...... It's somewhat yellowed over the years, but it is still readable.

Forgetter Be Forgotten?
My forgetter's getting better, But my rememberer is broke To you that may seem funny But, to me, that is no joke
For when I'm 'here' I'm wondering If I really should be 'there' And, when I try to think it through, I haven't got a prayer!
Oft times I walk into a room, Say 'what am I here for?' I wrack my brain, but all in vain! A zero, is my score.
At times I put something away Where it is safe, but, Gee! The person it is safest from Is, generally, me!
When shopping I may see someone, Say 'Hi' and have a chat, Then, when the person walks away I ask myself, 'who the hell was that?
Yes, my forgetter's getting better While my rememberer is broke, And it's driving me plumb crazy And that isn't any joke.
CAN YOU RELATE???

This seems to be cut and pasted from http://www.suddenlysenior.com/myforgetter.html. It's polite to include sources Gearce in directly copied posts.

I didn't even know the site existed until now ...... What I posted was what I received in an email ...... Had I 'cut and pasted' from the site as you suggest it seems, then it would have looked like this

Yes, my forgetter's getting better While my rememberer is broke, And it's driving me plumb crazy And that isn't any joke I would have included the source had I got it from somewhere other than an email ...... I also have checked postings on OGFB against the Internet and found that some, whilst not 'cut and pasted', have 'seemed' to be sourced from there, but no critique has been levelled at them ...... Am I being singled out?

You Better Slow Down By: David L. Weatherford
Have you ever watched kids on a merry-go-round, Or listened to rain slapping the ground?
Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight, Or gazed at the sun fading into the night?
You better slow down, don't dance so fast, time is short, the music won't last.
Do you run through each day on the fly, When you ask "How are you?", do you hear the reply?
When the day is done, do you lie in your bed, With the next hundred chores running through your head?
You better slow down, don't dance so fast, time is short, the music won't last.
Ever told your child, we'll do it tomorrow, And in your haste not see his sorrow?
Ever lost touch, let a good friendship die, 'Cause you never had time to call and say "hi"?
You better slow down, don't dance so fast, time is short, the music won't last.
When you run so fast to get somewhere, You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day, It's like an unopened gift thrown away.
Life is not a race, so take it slower, hear the music before the song is over.

Nice one Gearce. Sadly even when asked 'How are you?" not everyone answers anyway.

The Quiet Soldier
And when we asked
Hey - what was it like in the war?
You'd smile and tell the story
About the time that you saw
Winston Churchill in pyjamas
Through a train carriage door.
Then you'd quietly change the subject
Did you fire a gun?
You never actually said
But described how a bullet
Scraped the top of your head
And in that fraction of an inch
Between alive or dead
You decided there must be a god.
And here's your photo
A young man in a bush hat
A gentle smile and so worldly wise
Maybe it was the flash gun
In the station's photo booth
Put the pain into your eyes
I dare say you'd explain it that way.
And I wonder why
I never thought of it before
You had wounds that you never
Wanted to recall
The sights and the sounds
And the horrors of war
You quietly buried them all.
So when we asked
What was it like in the war?
You'd smile, re-tell the story
About the time that you saw
Winston Churchill in pyjamas
Through a train carriage door.
Then you'd quietly change the subject.
[OK - this is a song not a poem, which means I can get away with it not scanning perfectly! I''ve changed a word or two here and there since first posting.]

Everyone and anyone who likes poetry should take a look at http://www.poetrybyloree.com/ which contains over 430 poems on a vast number of subjects and the music is a pleasure to listen to.
I came across it while googling for Christmas verses for Christmas cards.
