We were woken at six this morning with loud knocking at the front door and the unmistakable figure through the glass of a Policeman, given that our children all live away from here there was immediate concern and fear, However the above picture is of the scene that greeted us, this is all just less than two weeks after a meeting to discuss the traffic problems that manifest Gisburn Rd and Bracewell Lane. As I have posted elsewhere we have just had a distressing weekend and last week I completed security so that our animals can go safely in the garden. At this moment I just dont know where to start.

Hi Peter, I have just been observing the speed of some motorist leaving Barlick just at your area, to say the least it is frightening, not just cars, but wagons, buses, etc, i think it calls for the police to do a regular speed check, as they do up here on Kelbrook road. We do not have the added danger of double parked cars as you do down there, it really is quite hairy the speed of some of these guys.....

What about Neighbourhood Watch? In our village they are sometimes provided with a handheld speed monitor so they can collect speed data to back up any claims about dangers on the road through the village. Just having people standing there in fluoresecent jackets holding up the monitor causes drivers to slow down and worry about being booked. But you need to use robust people because they might get threatened by petrolheads.

"Payback time"  The Police came down this morning just after nine o clock. They put a camera in the drive next door facing uphill, they showed me how it worked and let me have a go. I left them to it and after half an hour the camera was moved to the end of Foster Rd to face the incoming traffic. When I left to go shopping they were still there and a great number of tickets had been handed out, others were cautioned and nothing from mini's to huge artics escaped, those getting a ticket were also breathalized. And the police will be back.

That's good news Thomo! There will be people complaining because `their rights are being compromised' by a camera recording their excessive speed - but do they have a right to destroy other people's property or even to possibly kill a child? Some of those people who complain about speed cameras would be the first to make a fuss about lack of police action if they or their famililes were injured or killed.

If the coppers are still there give them a cup of tea and a biscuit each!

Slightly off piste but complimentary to Tiz comment on human rights. I heard an EU official talking about the use of 'Mosquito' sound generators to deter youths from hanging about being a nuisance. He was bangin on about the youth's 'human rights'. How about the human rights of the dhopkeppers and victims of speeding in this case? The accident was on the front page of the BET yesterday.

There's too much talk about `my rights' and not enough about `my duties' - you can't have one without the other. If we don't teach this early on then we can expect trouble.

Nine weeks on and the threat of a law suite has finally got us some action, the drivers insurance firm are sending someone to see the damage next Monday Morning, not before time either, we are sick of the increase in noise levels and the lack of privacy.

The girl came from Direct Line and after talking with my agent first asked why our insurance couldn't pay for the repairs, agreed that the driver was at fault and they would pay for the repairs. Two weeks later they changed thier minds and we went back to square one. Direct line claimed that they had spoken with all parties involved ie the driver of the car that ended up in the garden, the driver of the taxi who called the Police and the Police themselves claiming that the "accident" had not been logged. Our agent then contacted all three and none of them had been contacted by direct line. The Police at top level now became involved and today a letter arrived from Direct Line admitting their clients resposibility. So now we can move on, the contractors have been informed and hopefully we can now see a closure to all of this, and it will be fifteen weeks next Monday since all of this started.

It's appalling how `cut & dry' cases can be drawn out for months, even years, now. One of my relatives had a motorcyclist approaching her on a main road turn right immediately in front of her bonnet. Of course she couldn't help but hit him and she ended up with whiplash injuries to her neck and a badly damaged car. The police said there was absolutely no doubt it was the motorcyclist's fault. But he refused to admit blame and it went on for about a year. Ridiculous!

Almost another months has slipped by but at last things are moving. Garden Doctors are hoping to start the repairs on Wednesday, I will post another pic when they have finished.

Passed your place yesterday morning Peter, about 9.30 am. I had just pulled out of Greenberfield lane, heading into Barlick, no sign of any traffic either way, then lo and behold a car was right up my backside , he came like a bat out of hell, and the maniac tried to overtake me just outside your house, he was prevented from doing so by the cars parked on the other side of Gisburn road, all i can say about this large black car is that it had a Polish licence plate, and he tailgated me until he turned off at Gisburn street. I fear for you down there.
