It just struck me that we don't have a thread for the most basic of foodstuffs, so here it is. I know that there are a number of members who bake their own bread be it by hand or machine. I love breadmaking and am just setting about a hanbaking batch for tea tonight. Nothing like the smell of homebaked bread. Post your triumphs and disasters here.

Ian - that bread looks superb - making me hungry.  The only time I have tried to bake bread it turned out fit for a door stop.

Get a bread machine Moh and enjoy......  Good for you as well, you know exactly what is in the bread.  All natural, just flour, water, sugar, salt, yeast and a bit of fat.

I couldn't agree more. Follow the recipes that come with the breadmaker and you can't go wrong. You can experiment once you have the hang of it. My husband doesn't use ours all the time but it makes a damn good loaf. It wasn't an expensive model either.

Please see unwanted christmas gifts, I think I moaned about it there. Not the breadmaker, just the principle of gifts really.

Come to think of it, I am moaning quite a bit really, and then having to back pedal. Ah well, on with the size 12 boots and I will open my mouth wide.

I shall be retrieving my bread maker from the bottom shelf of the pantry fairly soon. I don't use it in summer, but use it constantly in winter. I love the smell it puts thru the house on cold, rainy days when folk come home starving and freezing.....they step inside the front door and inhale deeply. The smell of freshly baked bread is amazing. I have experimented a lot in the past with different recipes. I tend to like the more wholemeal/ heavy bread, but the family prefer white.
