What caught my attention today is the latest news about China.

They have bought 80% of the Grangemouth refinery, which supplies all Scotland, N. Ireland, and much of N.E. England.  Surely a strategic asset which should not be under the ciontrol of such a country.

They have tested their new Stealth Fighter. (Looks a lot like the US version.....)

They now have 90 submarines in their navy. ( Not sure if nuclear or not). Australia does right to be at the leading edge of underwater detection technology.

They have just bought an Australian coal mine for best part of £1 billion. (None of this windmill nonsense for them!). They have coal mines in Africa. The staff went on strike recently - the management shot them.....

But never mind - I bet the most press coverage today will be the breeding pair of Pandas which they have donated to the Edinburgh Zoological Society. Doesn't that name sound so Victorian?  We use to give the natives a mirror and a bag of beads.

This is getting tiresome..........

Once again Frank it sadly falls to me to point out a glaring error .....

Nobody broke into anything , the Twenty-odd people procecuted ,  were selected from a group of over One Hundred who were arrested at a school , having held a day of discussion about possible action at Radcliffe....(it had not even been agreed that action was to take place)

They were to be tried on a charge of "conspiracy "

It might be a good idea if you were to watch this

Now Then ..Tripps !  ....I'm hoping that at least some of your post was tongue in cheek.

Here's something that puts the shooting incedent into perspective....

(panic response ? who knows)

My final word on this is, thank goodness the "Crown " are still working to protect the people.

Did you see the ex boss of the CBI explaining the facts behind the Bankers Bonus, and how we the Tax Payers profit from them.
 It went something like this
Bonus =s  x Amount  - Tax 50% -NI 10% - they spend it so VAT at 20% or if they save it Tax at 40% on the interest.
If the Money stays within the Bank they pay Corporation Tax at I think 28% so we the Tax Payers win !!!!!!!!

 I was attracted by this:-

[ur]lhttp://www.telegraph.co.uk/education/8253466/David-Miliband-to-become-a-teacher.html[/url]

...and my mind suddenly turned to an oft disputed claim that "those that can do...and those that can't teach".

Every silver lining has a cloud.

So Frank ,you didn't remove your posts because they might have been a bit embarassing , then..?

Let's not forget that you wrongly claimed people were arrested , having cut the fence and  were trying to shut down Ratcliffe Power Station , shall we .

Your removal of posts is a shame , and actually, not very brave.

I would opine that we were not "arguing over nothing" ,as you put it . but over important issues concerning civil liberty.

It should be in Speakers Corner not here that is why I removed my posts, and I stand by what I said. My mate is a Charge Engineer (Team Leader) at Ratcliffe and they had to repair the fence. That is a fact Google Ratcliffe and see them breaking down the Fence. I have also worked at Ratcliffe and every other station on the Trent, oh and in Sinfin Lane at Derby you know ICL, CC, NEI, & RR and finally ABB then Alstom. I add those facts so you can see I am not Guessing at the effects of a 2000MW crash.Plus the danger to staff of a runaway Boiler or Turbine.
To go back so that you don't think I have backed out.
The undercover officer should be pursued through the courts to reclaim any money we have paid him.It took him 7 years to find out what he believed in and all the time he took our money. Oh and he had a bit stuff on the side whilst he did it. I Tell you within months Max Clifford will be selling his story around Fleet Street. Then we will see principles. Now remember how you got the couple from the Sudan wrong they sold their story within a week.
The Police and the CPS had enough evidence to convict at Ratcliffe, and they had a succesfull conviction.
Anyone planning an attack on our Power Supplies need to be very careful they could find themselves locked up for a very long time.
Civil Liberties are fine as long as you know and understand that a Demonstration can only be Peaceful that is in a Right enjoyed by us all.
Did you see the young man convicted today for the Fire Extingusher offence at Millbank ? A Young life wasted for Nothing. I seem to remember you singing their praise ( the university rioters ) not so very long ago. Bet that boy wished he had stayed away !!!
I will stay supporting our Crown & Police and leave you to get on with Who you support for Civil Liberty.
Which is in my opinion just waffle/excuse for causing trouble.

Two things caught my attention re the two topics above.
1) last night on the news it suggested the undercover policeman was more than just an observer who had infiltrated, he in fact was instigating some of the things the group got up to. Perhaps a pang of conscience hit him once they were accused. Of course at the time he may well have only being doing what he was paid to do. Can't strip a man of his wages for that.
2) Though car sales have fallen Rols royce report an increase in sales...to China..sales have risen 80% there.

Belle ....Please believe me , I am NOT being naughty.....

Anyone who posts their views on this website should ,at least, be prepared to discuss them.....

Feeble excuses about where  the discussion should take place are diversionary.....

Belle, leave them to get on with it. They'll calm down eventually.Comment on protests isn't strictly politics anyway.

Most sensible opinion I heard on the power station protest was from a retired senior policeman who used to run undercover operations for the Met. He wouldn't comment on the current case of course but as a general point he said that unless there was evidence of serious intent, non-violent protests should not be infiltrated and that if it was done the key factor was the quality of supervision by senior officers. He left the question open but was clearly pointing the finger at the man's superiors.
