After numerous complaints from numerous members I have decided to ban the members Frank Wilkinson and Herb from the site.
They have flagrantly abused the site rules and it will not be tolerated.

It's a shame that Frank couldn't change his agressive attitude, and personal remarks, since a lot of what he said gave a bit of balance to the generally leftish attitude of some other members. I take it he was given the chance to moderate his posts?

Before anyone starts to attack Doc, who quite rightly will not defend his decision, be aware that there was a lot more to this than what went on in the forums. In fact this decision wasn't triggered by posts in public but other matters. Be sure he didn't do it lightly. My advice is to trust Doc, support him and let the matter drop. Ask yourself how we manage to have such a clean site, it isn't luck but a lot of hard work and careful thought.
The best way to support Doc would be to send him a tenner. Remember he is paying the fees for the server. A bit hard for him to be doing that and having his decisions questioned.

Oh dear, I have just been going through the forum "Politics Corner" now I can see what has happened. Personal opinions, turn into arguments, then personal insults start to fly, and banning orders are dished out... This is why we never ever, discussed politics in the pub, no good ever came of it, not in a social gathering sense anyway, and this site is no exception.

It is such a shame, especially as the Frank we knew in the Family & Local History topics, before this all kicked off, was an asset to the site.

I quite liked Frank and stuck up for him a few times, but as for the political posts, I've no idea cause I have never got involved in them.

I've just returned from about 10 days away and also offline, and the world as we know it is coming to an end. News of the World, Murdoch making apologies, Met commissioner resigned, police in the dock, USA in danger of going bankrupt...and now a crisis on OGFB. As a political agnostic I have to say I agree with the comments from Tripps above about the balance. And there has been a tendency of some members to keep rising to the bait.

You are right Wendy, it is a shame. I was with Herb a few months ago and I found him to be a very pleasant companion, I am also hoping to meet Frank at some time as we have something in common, the sea. All I can say is that this is all extremely disappointing.

"...and now a crisis on OGFB. " - priceless!
I wasn't criticisng - just seeking more information. I too remember Frank's contribution and help to others in the genealogy field. However you obviously know more than I do, so I will respect your judgment.

I am sad it all ended like this, and feel that I did rise to the bait when I was being attacked which hasn't helped. I think the key thing to take from all that has been said on here is that whatever prompted Docs action was not about what occurred in the forums, and was in flagrant abuse of site rules. As I only know the public disputes in the forums, I trust Doc to have made the right decision about whatever was going on behind the scenes.

It is a shame when members, that we come to know and share views with are banned from the site. Of course the site has got to be run as the webmasters see fit. I also met Herb a few months back and found him a very nice bloke, I really do not know what Herbs part in all this was, but I cant condone any personal attacks on anyone because of their differing points of view, especially if they have not heeded previous warnings.

Obviously the site needs to be moderated but, if someone starts to make personal attacks, just state your "defense" once and then ignore them.
