I have noticed that a number of people on the site like Stew and Hard. The Sun at Blacko still serves this, and is a very popular snack - especially when made and served by yours truly.

I must say, since moving near to Blacko last summer, The Rising Sun is a very good hostelry indeed.
Being a veggie I haven't tried the stew an ard but we've eaten other food there on a few occasions and found the general atmosphere warm and friendly. The beer's good too.
I don't know Purity at all so this is a totally unbiased opinion.

Hi Purity - Kia Ora from New Zealand. When you say that you make and serve Stew and Hard, do you actually make the Stew at the Rising Sun???
In my younger days at the Stone Trough at Kelbrook, we did make our own Stew from owt that we could lay our hands on. In those days it was all cooked in a huge pressure cooker and by the time it came out of that cooker of mystery, you wouldn't know where the original meat came from. But great helpings of cow heel and pig's trotters went in to provide the Gelatine for the finished dish.
I have made two bowls of stew this morning from cheap beef and what was left from a leg of pork that we got fed up with over the weekend, four pig's trotters, an onion stuck with cloves, black pepper corns, a couple of halved carrots and a long time in the crockpot (slow cooker), four bay leaves from out own laurel bush, and a handful of mixed herbs.
They are in the fridge at present setting and I will breakfast tomorrow morning on a plate full with Vita Wheat crispbread biscuits and a raw onion.
Who's worried about the onion on my breath?? It just goes to make a feast of a meal.

Hatepe - it's 08.50 in the morning here as I read that, but even at this time of day, your recipe got my tastebuds going and I could eat a pile of it right now.
Nothing wrong with raw onions - especially with proper British ale. Good cheddar and an onion, good stew and an onion - both made to eaten with beer.

Callunna, I can serve and make standard snacks such as sandwiches and stew and hards. As for the half of copper dragon, you'll have to ask someone else.
As for stew, it isn't made on the premesis, but the oatcakes are!
And of course Jack is very welcome

Next trip I make north, I'll have to try and persuade my partner in crime to take me to the Rising Sun. We don't normally dine out but I think we could make an exception.

Malty, the Sun is a popular pub that serves good food, its not the Dorchester so you won't be out of place, then again it doesn't have the same character as the Vic.
George and Dragon has been closed for some weeks. It will be interesting to see what comes of that place. Nolic

As Marcia said, Pucca (funny love) is a Japanese cartoon character who has her own range of fashion and cosmetic items, including bags, make-up, t-shirts, etc

Are you trying to say I would be out of place in the Dorchester Oilcan!!!
We normally just go and get a cuppa in the Heritage Centre as we fly around looking for one grave or another and then at different address's that have croppped up in the tree. I always trust to Ian as he's a local born and bred.
