One of the wonderful things about our country is the diversity of place names, some of which, the origins are quite vague. Barnoldswick is where most of us are,, twelve letters, none repeated, it was at one time registered as the longest place name as such. Stixwold, Tumby Woodside, Piddletrenthide, Affpuddle, the list is endless. One of my favourites is "Nemphnet Thrubwell sounds like a hangover" and before I snuff it , I want to have a look. But "Wooton Basset", we surely have all heard of. A beautiful English town which has been transformed into a place of honouring  the sadness of conflict. Few weeks go by without the sight of  its people paying their respects to the young men and women of this country passing through, now joined by members of the families of the fallen. The sight of the Globemaster Aircraft arirving at RAF Lyneham and discharging their solemn cargoes, the slow and dignified progress through this lovely place. I like a "Wet" and I am going to make sure that I have one in the "Cross Keys" in Wooton Basset, and thank the landlady and all present for what they have done and continue to do. They have been given an award in the past week and they deserve it. So my good wishes this Christmas go to the people of "Wooton Basset". Bless you all, have a good Christmas and may your welcome duties soon be discharged.

In The Times there was a report from one of the most forward positions in Afghanistan where the small group of soldiers get food rations dropped by helicopter but make their meals more interesting by being creative. They had acquired a couple of goats and some chickens from the locals and bought whatever vegetables or fruit they could. Rocks and sandbags were stacked up to make an oven and they bake their much-loved pizzas in it. From the sound of it, no two pizzas were ever the same. Asked what they would have instead of pizzas on Christmas Day, the answer was "More pizza!"

So!! Islam4UK want to parade the through the streets of Wootton Bassett. This I understand is one of the many groups who actively promote extremism, I dont know what the rest of you think, but I believe that allthough this country is based on fair and relatively free speech and the right to demonstrate, there is a time and place and I dont think that Wootton Bassett is either. Maybe a one way ticket to Kabul ad let them do it there or perhaps the people of that place wouldnt want them as they already have enough problems.

I've just read about it in the Mail online CLICK HERE

I'm not a racist, never have been and never will be, but this country "Great Britain" is currently at war with "The Taliban" which just so happens to be a group of muslims based in Afghanistan amongst many other places.

I never fought in any of the world wars but I fought for Queen and Country in the Falkland Islands against the Argentinians back in 1982.

What would they have done in 1944 if German sympathisers had marched down The Mall in London or for that matter that Argentinians had marched through say the middle of Barnoldswick in 1982. Lets just say that those events, had thay occured, would not have ended peacefully.

Wars are political by nature and after following their orders ultimately issued by the politicians, it is the individual solders, airmen, sailors and unfortunately the occasional civilian who pay the ultimate price with their lives .

Call me old fashioned, but isn't being British about all pulling together, shoulder to the wheel, watching each others back and supporting one another with stiff upper lips and all that.

It just isn't British to allow these planned marches to go ahead and if they don't like it then Tough - Emigrate to somewhere that will, but will they, no not a chance, not with the current nanny state and benefits for all, but thats another story.

This country needs someone to lead it with a pair of Balls, bring back Maggie.

Many thanks for that Doc and a Happy New year to you and your Family. I have had a look at your link, the first part was almost identical to the headline that I saw, the comments echoed my feelings. People such as these are not doing their brothers in faith any favours at all, I have said it before"We are all here on the same ticket" either shape up or ship out. I agree 100% with all you said there Doc. I have had "Flack" in the past for airing my concerns, lets hope there isnt any this time, but if there is, drop in and have a "Tot" you will always be welcome. Many respects,Thomo.

Thomo, it is unfortunate that these idiots have to pick Wootten Bassett as the stage for a further example of why they should not be in the country in the first place, simply deport asap all who participate.  What would the point be in granting them citizenship simply for pledging allegiance to the Queen?  If they are radical enough send them over to truly support their brothers in "the cause".  To quote numbers of civilians killed is unfair, unless they also include the numbers of civilians killed by their own countrymen who just happen to belong to another sect, be they Sunni or Shiite.  Our troops are not mindlessly killing women and children or destroying schools etc etc.  If the march is allowed I hope that those who authorize it are quickly removed from any position of authority, and that the media, with the exception of Al Jezzeera, refuse to cover the debacle!

Whilst I agree with the sentiments you all express I think this is just the reaction that Islam4UK is trying to get - had anyone ever heard of them before this proposal? These idiots thrive on this sort of reaction that they would term racist and anti Islamic. Had they chosen to march through Leicester would anyone have batted an eyelid?

I hope common sense prevails and that the police ban the march for the sake of public order. Nolic

It is possible that we would not care quite as much if they did march through Leicester, wasnt that the first place in England where the popualation of immigrants exceeded that of the original inhabitants, it is possible that the people there wouldnt bat an eyelid either. We tend to create a fuss when the BNP march, wherever they do it. I have read the reactions of the people of Wootton Bassett, non are in favour and the idea that it would be staged as a mock funeral cortege is distasteful in the extreme,, the coffins that normally pass through contain real people and very brave ones at that.

Looking at the `Contact Us' page of the `islam for UK' web site I see the sentence "Subsequently, living in Britain we target to convince the British public about the superiority of Islam and expose the fallacies of man-made law". Note the `living in Britain'. Then look on other pages and we see several times the phrase "How many of your soldiers have to die?" Note the `your'. So we seem to have people who live in Britain but do not want to be part of Britain.

Also on the Contact Us page are the statements "A platform for the global front Al-Muhajiroun, Islam4UK has been established by sincere Muslims as a platform to propagate the supreme Islamic ideology within the United Kingdom as a divine alternative to man-made law." Also: "Subsequently, living in Britain we target to convince the British public about the superiority of Islam and expose the fallacies of man-made law, thereby changing public opinion in favour of Islam in order to transfer the authority and power (from those with authority and power) to the Muslims in order to implement the Sharee'ah (here in Britain)."

Now all this seems quite interesting. It seems to be saying that Islam for UK wants to do away with our system of law. Forget racism - if I proclaimed in public that I wished to eliminate the laws of this country I wonder when the boys in blue would come knocking at my door? Not to mention the more sinister boys not in blue.

True that this is the type of reaction that the idiots want to promote, it is racist and anti Islam, and they are getting publicity.  Let's hope that now the group becomes better known, their goals more public and the public less tolerant as a result.  This is one time that I will wear the racist tag proudly.

Well Tizer, I have had a shufti at their site, read the letter from a disaffected UK Soldier clearly written by someone with a poor understanding of our language!, Noticed that they say "when we take control", not if!, seen the pictures of the re-modelled Buckingham Palace (mosque) and Nelsons Column negative Nelson, and the results of the National Treasures made into gifts to be given to the women by their government when as new brides or widows they "Choose to wed"!!!. In plain English" I have not seen as much Shite" in a long time. I suppose what is worse is that it made me laugh, and I didnt think they had a sense of humour. So, we are all going to roll over and do as they wish. Hasnt this been tried before by those who carried a mightier punch. I tried to save the pictures, but they are posted in a way that prevents this. Tomorrow I wil get them with my own secret weapon and post the results later.

Let them march, but without being allowed to hide their faces. Lets see who these people are and how many turn up. Then it is up to the employers of these people to decide if they want them on their workforce. Also the moderate muslims can see the shite's that live within their communities, and maybe expose them to a more  civilised culture. Islam I can live side by side with, racist who want to turn our country into something it is not, need to be shown the door.
Wooton Basset is just a town that shows it's respect for the fallen on behalf of all of us. No matter what the shite's do on their march they can never hope to recreate the feelings of what that town has done for our military.  Let the Ignorant march and lets just turn on back on them, Oh and have the seurity services video every last one of them

I went back to the islam for uk web site just now to look for the pictures thomo described. The home page came up OK but when I tried to move to another of their pages all I got was a white page, even though the browser said it had loaded the correct page. I tried the home page but got the same result and then the same for any of their other pages. No standard web `error' message. I wonder if the site is being blocked by `the authorities'? Perhaps not surprising as The Telegraph describes them as: " Islam4UK is a web-based organisation that describes itself as "a platform" for the extremist group Al Muhajiroun, which has been banned in Britain."
