I am attempting to compile a list of bands who performed at the Nelson Imp.
Would appreciate any information re bands/artists/dates etc.

I definitely saw him at Burnley Mechanics. Not sure about Colne Muni.

Listing starts Nov 1998 - Neither Burnley or Colne are listed.
I'm fairly sure the Burnley gig was before Nov 1998
I did see him at Halifax Victoria Theatre and Manchester Lowry which are both listed

Hi dave, from another Dave. I was googleing Nelson Imp when your site came up asking for info. Well i was in the"Mutineers" group which became "the District Blues Co" in the sixties & we played as the support band on numerouse sat nights. There was the stax show with Booker T, Otis Reading, Aurthur Connelly, the south african lass who sang my fav song, (stay with me baby), i think, i remember we did it for free because they could have got anyone to play on a night like that.
Then there was the night when we were comming off stage after a 45 min spot & as the stage turned i tipped my tenor & all the spit went over Humperdinkts velvet jacket., he was ok it was blacked out so i couldn't see !, memorries!!
David John & the Mood we used to rave about a few years prior to playing there, also i know the stones were there because we used to walk from Burnley & a green Commer van stopped us for directions to nelson imp & it was Mick Jagger hangin out of the window, but that must have been early 60's . Bob Caine was the manager i think. We used to meet at that trendy pub at Wheatley lane, before the breatherliser came into existence, as the beer at the imp was uuuuuh!! like water, hope that helps a bit.

It was the Sparrow Hawk in Wheatley Lane I think.

I seem to remember that just before the fire in 1976 the Imp had just reopened as a live music venue. I think it was opened by Tony Wilson (of Factory records & owner of Manchesters infamous Hacienda club). Curved Air were the band booked for that first live gig. |

Curved Air were a much underrated band with a gloriously attractive signer - Sonja Kristina, who still looks as good today as she did tin the late '60's The band are still going. Nolic

Saw them at the Imp. The violinist played the finale with a lit flair on his bow - very dramatic.

Curved Air's violin player was Daryl Way.
Drummer was some guy called Stewart Copeland - Curved Air split up in 1977 and he formed a band called Police - who had a bit of success in the late 70's/early 80's
He also married Curved Air's singer Sonja Kristina. |

Hi, I'm a new member just registered. I was a regular at the Imp from 1962 for about seven years and even played there twice. I remember Bob Caine very well and I have lots of memories of the place. Unfortunately I don't have much time at the moment but I will be back on in the next day or two and I'm looking forward to it. Seeya Folks. Regards to all.

Two years ago I visited Joyce Haynes who at that time was living in Tasmania, Australia. She apparently used to sing at the Imp. I presume this would have been about the 1940's. She went on to perform in a lot of amateur theatre productions in that area and in Melbourne, Australia.

Did the Rolling Stones appear at the Imp. The manager Bob Caine lived a few doors away from me. Nice chap.
