I went up Letcliffe today in the sunshine with the birds singing and only a light breeze from the NW to spoil things so I decided you were right and it's probably about time we started to be optimistic. However..... have you seen the forecast for Easter?

I've heard more cuckoos than usual this year, they are down in the woods on Kelbrook Moor. There seems to be more skylarks around too. Last year I heard a snipe "drumming" for the first time, but not this year as yet, perhaps I just havent been outside at the right time.

Chance of rain tomorrow, the further south you are the bigger that chance is.

Certainly cooler and more cloud - maybe the breeze will blow them away. We always had Cuckoos around Kelbrook. Very amusing Frank - yes we have plenty.

Been up to Tosside today seeking and photographing ancestors' graves. It was a beautiful day, we made our way via Stocks reservoir (which is a lovely place we had not seen before) to Bentham Iplenty of bilberries will be coming on the top of the moors Belle) and then to Skipton - the ash trees were coming out, the oak is almost out so if the old saying of oak before ash is true we should be in for a splash this year.

Re-run of yesterday in Barlick with less wind. Fresh but clear and dry with a heavy dew. Not a bad sign at this time of the year.

If the English summers could be relied on to be like this all the time, who would want to go abroad?
Here's a couple of pics of Mr & Mrs Swan with all 7 of their new family:

adelaide ... yoohoo ... Hi. We have been blessed for the last few days with temps in the low to mid twenties, gorgeous blue and white skies, jackets and scarves in the morning - then not needed in the afternoon. But the sun is getting lower and night is arriving earlier. Saw a gorgeous sunset this evening at 5.20pm, suburbs are greener, flowers are blooming, roses and more roses are everywhere. Alas, our weekend is set for rain, starting on Thursday, hail on Friday (16C), more rain and more rain. No compliants ... (as long as I don't get drenched or blown away).
All thru the fields and meadows gay .... Enjoy Take Care...Cathy |

Lovely to see. Are these the swans with ASBO's? A few people I know were chased along the towpath last week by an angry swan.....

Mr & Mrs Swan are friendly and gentle - they will politely take a slice of bread straight from my hand. However, just as we defend our offspring against any threat, so do they - which is fair enough.
At least they don't leave litter or dog poo on the towpath so in my book I'd rather have them around than some humans!
How there could have been a song called the Ugly Duckling - referring to a cygnet of course - I just don't know. They're so fluffy and sweet I could scoop them up and cuddle them.
Trouble is, Mr and Mr Swan would probably rip my head off... |
