I am having trouble accessing the site, sometimes I cannot get on at all (page unavailable), sometimes it goes so slow it times out, and yet at other times it can be fine. Is it my provider, Orange, or is it the site? Is anyone else finding this happening?

It is the server Glo. We are running at about 10,000 hits a day plus. Doc tells me that last month we had 300,000 hits. Amazing. The new software will be up early in the New Year and this will put less load on the server and we'll have better access. Times to avoid are 10 'til 12 in the morning and 1300 'til 17:00 in the afternoon. Best and fastest time is 6am in the morning. be patient and reflect on the fact that it is all down to success!

its very slow at my end. one of the slowest forums i visit.
very frustrating at times. you must be loosing visitors and or posts cause of it.
maybe worth looking at your hosting server/service provider?
still a great site though. shame about the speed.
get some gorm |

I believe plans are afoot to address the problems soon, if I recall right.
Trying to avoid the site for most of the GMT daylight hours isn't really helpful in the long run, especially given the differeing nationalities that post here, so I'm sure Doc is on the case.
I've generally found Snitz Forums run slower than most but that's because there's a lot going on in the background compared to the simpler ones.

Once again..... The slowness is due to the el cheapo band width we use and pay for ourselves and the amount of info. That's why the site is free. The new version which we had up for a couple of days early last year was much faster but had security problems. Doc and his mates have been working on that since then and we will eventually get it up. Best time to go on the site is when US and Europe are in bed, ie. early in the morning here. The site is brilliantly fast at 4am to 6am. If you want faster, get on to Doc and get him to tell us how much it will cost and we can set up a proper fund for wider band width. Otherwise, have patience and see what the new version brings. I hit the block every now and again during the day, I just go away and do something else and come back later.

Stanley - I would rather be in bed at that un-earthly hour.

Ah well, there you are Vee. The world relies on the early risers and night workers to keep it going, the unsung heroes. I have had early starts all my life and once you get into the habit you like it, the world belongs to you at 5 in the morning.....

Stanley unless I am just getting in at 5 a.m. you can have it. It is now 4.00a.m. and I just got in, having a break and then to bed, one day I will grow up and realize that I am getting too old for this nonsense, but for now I don't have to be up til the p,m, cheers

Chacun a son gout as they say Herb..... I like the early start and in bed at a reasonable hour, that doesn't mean I want to impose it on anyone else.

Noticed tonight the site is absolutely flying, compared to the usual evening speed. Is it my set up or has anyone else noticed an improvement?

Tripps, it's all to do with general web traffic and actual traffic on the server. As I keep saying, it's brilliant early in the morning for that reason. The new version (when we get it up) will be better because it uses a simpler query language. It's all down to patience.......... We aren't doing so badly actually, we get up to over 20,000 hits a day and that's heavy traffic by anyone's standards.
