4. Scope and arrangement of the collection

The stock relates specifically to the present area of West Craven and West Yorkshire. The West Craven area includes Barnoldswick, Bracewell, Brogden, Salterforth, Kelbrook, Earby and Thornton-in-Craven. Also represented are parts of the Ribble Valley including Gisburn and Sawley. The collection also comprises the Yorkshire and Craven collections. The collection includes books, pamphlets, photographs, negatives, newspaper cuttings, microfilms, microfiches, manuscipts and newspapers. Also housed within the collection are the Barnoldswick Local History Society's collection and Barnoldswick Urban District Council material relating to the period before local government reorganisation in 1974.

Material is not normally loaned although where a duplicate copy exists, books will be considered for loan where appropriate.

The collection is arranged by the Lancashire Libraries Local Studies Classification Scheme.

Barnoldswick Local History Society collection is housed at Barnoldswick library, comprising photographs, newspaper cuttings, plans and maps, books and museum pieces.
