I got a prompt reply from Harry Moore but it was a bit negative.
Morning Harry, new website looks good.
* Link to oneguyfrombarlick would give access to 30,000 hits a day, the Lancashire Textile Project and lots of other archived info on Bancroft. * Have you read my book on Bancroft? Phil has a copy I gave her and it's in the library. * One comment on technical text. The condensers main function is to produce the vacuum on the engine not re-use of water. * Nobody has ever asked me for Bancroft pics.
Best, S.
Thank you for your comments Stanley, we are in the early days of doing it ourselves and have only had about 3 weeks from getting the domain ownership and starting planning to going live. We took the decision to restrict links for the first few months to those few who fund us in some way or who have provided video, much as the policy of Ellen Road who don't do reciprocal either. I can't see any way that that will be changed for a while. I saw your book on Bancroft when you handed over the counter but haven't read it. Time is something that I don't have. Soft water and a low water bill have always been main issues over the last twenty years. Regards, Harry Moore

It's staggering isn't it, he does a web site for Bancroft Mill but admits he hasn't read Stanley's book on the Mill and says "Time is something that I don't have". He should have prioritised his activities and read the book about the mill first.

One of the reasons why I very rarely visit the engines I am associated with is that whilst people are glad to see you they aren't really comfortable with any contact. It used to puzzle me but then I realised that they were probably wary because I know where the bodies are buried. Quite natural, it's their baby and they see things from their point of view. John Pierce was CEO at RMBC when I did Ellenroad and was my greatest ally. He told me once about a Councillor explaining how he had saved Ellenroad engine, completely missing the fact that John was in at the start and stayed the course. It was he who told me that it was all perfectly natural, Yesterday's Men! Main thing is the engine is running and they are enthusiastic. Good luck to them!
Mind you, completely ignoring the offer of access to about 10,000 negatives is a bit puzzling.

We're entertaining visitors to Bancroft Mill at the next Steaming Day (28 August 2011). Probably playing a couple of songs here and there in between the engine being fired up (from 1pm).
In the meantime, for people who like this sort of thing, here's a YouTube video made by one of the enthusiasts:
