Jack is making a lot of friends in Barlick. I don't know why, maybe it's his face markings but people on the street feel the need to stroke him. Women in particular fall for him.

As you know, I had a bad experience with Joe, the lurcher from Irlam. I was very wary about taking another feral dog on but I'm beginning to think that Jack will make it as a member of the team. He's good at coming to hand when off the lead but I'm not saying he'd take any notice if he was distracted.

He's fast and very agile and seems to have lungs as big as a bucket, I haven't heard him pant as though he's out of breath even after a hard run. As for jumping, he's like a cat. Here he is on his favourite perch. Someone asked me the other day why I don't stop him doing it. It's easier to clean the drainer twice a day!

[This topic started as Jack's blog but in Jan 2008 I had to put him down because he started attacking strange dogs.  His successor is Black Jack. a Patterdale pup, no point erasing Jack the Lurcher from history....  he was a good dog and what happened wasn't his fault.  He had too bad a start.....]

Our three legged cat who broke her pelvis is now out and about again---we watched her stalk a mouse and catch it the other day.

Good news Gloria.   I wonder if she has forgotten that she ever had 4 legs?  I imagine she has just re-balanced herself and follows her instincts.

Both her and her brother are farm killing machines. When, don't laugh---Daffodil (named by grandaughter) broke her pelvis she was confined to the dog cage in the house. Her brother Fred (also named by grandaughter) brought dead mice and birds and left them at the back door!!!!! They have even been known to catch squirrels.

Good to hear she is OK again Gloria. Our 3 legged cat brought us 2 dead voles in the space of 20 minutes this morning.

I put a small amount of trimmings from the breast of lamb after Friday's stew-building into the cat nest. Still there yesterday morning but it has gone this morning so the lodger visited and had a midnight snack. I shall make the nest a bit more comfortable and continue the snacks. We shall see what happens!

There's a gap between finishing my morning correspondence tasks and it being light enough to go for a walk so I fill it with doing useful household tasks.

I've cleared all the uncomfortable crap out of the old drawer, brushed it out and put some old dust sheets in for padding. It's pushed under the shelf and we'll see if my lodger appreciates the amenities! Will continue with the light snacks.

On the radio this morning, a very British story of how our ambassador in Iran saved the embassy's Jack Russel terrier `Pumpkin' when the mob was tearing the building down. He carried the doggy with him wherever he went, and finally into the special shelter where they hid from the Iranians. They couldn't fly Pumpkin out due to quarantine problems but friends from the French embassy took him and he is now being looked after in France. (It was also interesting to hear how well the French embassy staff looked after the British during those terrifying hours.)

Thank the Lord it all happened before Dave used the Veto....eh !

....and does this mean that Pumpkin the Jack Russel is consigned to the fate of becoming

Jacques Russelle .... Permpkin.......?

A rescue mission must be put in place forthwith ......!

I got one fact wrong - Pumpkin is a she, not he. No need for a rescue mission to France Bradders, she's probably now an undercover dog spying for Britain.

More on Pumpkin here - [LINK]

I heard that report also Tiz. Lovely story.

Cat nest and snack untouched last night Cathy but due to cold the lump of minced beef is in good nick. Nice thing is that the rats haven't found it!

Perhaps the cat is waiting for the rats to come for the beef?

Don't know Tiz. I suspect shelter is the motive. Lodger visited last night, beef has been eaten!
