Questions about this subject keep cropping up amid closely related topics, so I thought it may be a good idea to expand on the subject. I will not go on about my qualifications to discuss Canal Boats so lets just give it a go and see what transpires.

...it won't, because I don't have that much luck! But by keeping our feet on the ground and dealing with problems as they arise, we should muddle through.

Thanks for all your good wishes.Go to Top of Page

Good luck Cal. - it is a nightmare selling houses - it should be like in Scotland - when you agree to buy it is binding or you lose your money.  Ref. res. I seem to remember reading somewhere about a marina

Last night we went round to meet a really nice couple who have a gorgeous boat moored near Salterforth. I first 'met' them on one of the canal forums and we had a great chat about not only boats but also local history.

I see that they've now joined OGFB, so a big welcome to you both.

Also, it turned out that one of our stalwart OGFB members is a work colleague and that they knew someone I used to work with over 20 years ago in Rochdale. It's a small world indeed.

No further news about our boat just yet.Go to Top of Page

Good luck on both fronts, house and boat.....  The sooner this is all behind you the better!  Look after each other, very stressful.

Cally, thank you for the nice introduction, lovely to meet you both. We can talk boats and canals all night (and local history!), you may have noticed.

Ive just spent an hour reading this thread, I hadn't realised that there were so many people in the know regarding canals up here.

A few names mentioned are familiar to me. Doug Moore, I remember him when he was down at Riley Green prior to moving to Lower park. Dr Roger Lorenz built our last boat Jack down in his yard in Worsley. We met him down in Wigan in the summer when we were in drydock. We always stop for a chat with Winston when we pass through Feniscowles.

I'm going to spend a while looking through the rest of the site, so far what I have seen looks good!

Regards, Andy.

Wendy's going to rue the day she ever let us across the gangplank...

Hope you find lots to interest you on here Andy, and looking forward to your contributions.

Helen's Drum will be available early November - I'm opening a book on whether our house sale will go through:

*Too soon - 50:1

*Too late - 2:1

*Bang on time - 500:1

Mathematician or chancer?  Has H got the odds wrong?  Get the calculator out Dearie.  I have this funny feeling it will be too early and The Pugwash Two will be in limbo twixt house and boat.  I hope not but a contingency plan is needed.

Our contingency plan is to camp out at my mother's.

I'm not sure who will crack first.

I haven't a clue how betting and odds work! I'm not a gamblin' woman. No good getting a calculator out - I don't know how they work either...Go to Top of Page
