As there seems to be quite a bit of artistic talent around here, I thought I would start a pencil sketch section .....

I can sing but thats about it...all 4 of my kids played instruments one is at music college, and one still at home sitting in their room playing guitar as we speak.. we like a sing song too. Two of them took art but the other two were quite arty too...and the most musical was also the most mathematical. Of my own siblings all of 5 of us took art, but not many of us were musical. I have three kids almost like you they are able to pick up anything and do well at it..with the exception of the PE.

Thanks for that, very ego boosting, interestingly I have found poets, artists, and musicians way back in the family tree...we are all a sum total of those that went before us...exciting really.

Along the artistic lines, as far as I know we only have a poet in our family history (a big one at that), but Stanley's reference to tight -rope walking reminded me of either Gearce's or Tizer's words (so sorry if i have that wrong) of
'If at first you don't succeed, then sky diving is not for you',  Confused

really tickled my fancy that did.  lolol

Hi Flutterby, so nice to see you on here  Smile

William Wordsworth - he's either our ggg uncle or ggg grandfather, paternal side.

You nailed it! Even down to that look that babies give when their attenion has just been caught, which of course parents or photographer would have been doing to get the shot. Well done indeed!

Not sure how to appraise art, but the shading, those eyes, the skin, and Oh!  those baby lips.  Love it.

Really good, in fact beyond good. No criticism, just a suggestion, try laying a piece of paper across the bottom to blank out the two triangles in the bottom corners. To my eye they are a distraction from the face. See what you think. I'm looking at it like a photographer and I think I'd crop them out if it was my snap. Belle and Cathy are right, cracker of a pic. What does the Aged Parent think about it?

thanks stanley, you are right about the triangles as it was photographed  still on the drawing board, ive taken it off the board now and touched up the corners, the line of the clothes on the right has also been touched up as i thought it looked like a pubic hair! and ive signed it.  so it looks slightly different but not enough to post it again. your all going to get bored of me and my drawings

the aged parent  (mum said hey you stanley watch it haha) LOVES it, shes going to get it scanned so she has a copy for herself, shes having a 40th party in 2 weeks so i think shes feeling sentimental about it. my nan and gramp havent seen it finished yet but my gramp had tears in his eyes when he seen the beginnings of the drawing, so i better get the tissues out ready for his next visit haha what a softie!!!

See you are already using your gift to give pleasure to others. I can't imagine Tracey Emin's Gramp shedding tears over her unmade bed..well not tears of joy anyway!
