Herb, we were told on the radio this morning that it isn't just Hamas who are firing rockets at the Israelis, there are rebel Fatah groups and others doing it too. So even if Hamas agrees to stop it won't mean nor more rockets on Israel. They also pointed out that the US keeps suggesting Iran backs Hamas, but Iran is Shia and Hamas are Sunni - so they are enemies rather than friends.
Pluggy, we see this sort of thing all the time. We've run a small home business for about 12 years and in that time we've seen the competence of suppliers and customers go steadily and rapidly downhill. People, even in big companies, often can't work out how to buy from us, although it's very, very simple. Often we have to solve problems, not of our creating, for customers and suppliers. The big organisations are the worst. It really surprises me that the UK manages to keep running at all!

Only enemies if they can't find someone else to fight with. Iran finance Hamas and Hezbolla they are funded just to create mischief in that part of the world.
Hammas had to be stopped, they could almost hit an Israeli Nuclear Power Plant. Then 100s would die and the region would be finished for decades which is what hammas would be happy with.

Two things grabbed me. The British economy looks as though it's in melt-down , everyone is reporting the figures from the end of last year, could things actually be worse than they realise?
The other thing is the TV programme I saw last night on knife crime (Panorama). How did we let these kids down so badly...... Then I saw a bit of a police with cameras prog and there were two young lads on there who could only be described as animals. Even the noises they made were grunts and snarls. Worrying stuff.

PS. JCB production is down 75% on last year......
06:15 R4 news. RichardBrown, CE of Eurotunnel was being interviewed about their 10% increase in passengers last year and sais that one factor helping them was the fall in the pound and increased numbers of visitors from France. The interviewer asked him whether that meant that the trains coming in were full and the outgoing one empty. Slight pause and then Brown pointed out that all the visitors have return tickets.......

Not too mention the redundancies they have made this past year. A few months ago, the workers at JCB suggested they take a pay cut to save redundacies. A week later, there were redundancies anyway, it was not enough.
Yesterday there was news of another 684 to go.
They have also relocated one of the oldest factories recently

DIGGER giant JCB has ended almost 140 years of manufacturing history in Uttoxeter after the final machine rolled off the production line at its Heavy Products factory.
The site on the edge of the town has been connected to manufacturing since 1871 when farm machinery makers Bamfords opened.
The firm – which employed hundreds of workers from the Uttoxeter area – went bust in 1980 and nine years later, after a number of new owners, JCB bought the site on Pinfold Street.
It began production of its famous yellow diggers and on Wednesday, the last JCB, a 26-tonne JS260 tracked excavator, was produced ready for delivery to a customer in Germany.
The £80,000 machine took about three days to build at the factory which is earmarked for demolition to make way for a multi-million redevelopment to include housing, retail, parkland and medical facilities.
If tracked and wheeled excavators is now being transferred to the new purpose-built £40 million JCB Heavy Products factory next to the A50 on the outskirts of Uttoxeter.
Sir Anthony Bamford, the JCB chairman, was at the factory on Wednesday to thank workers for their efforts and wish them well for the future.
The company is currently going through a major redundancy programme involving hundreds of job losses.
Sir Anthony said: "This is the end of an era because my family has been linked to this site since the 19th century when Bamfords started manufacturing agricultural machinery.
"But this is also the start of a new and exciting era, not only for JCB's excavator business but Uttoxeter because the relocation offers the opportunity to redevelop and enhance an important area of the town."
Sir Anthony said he would like to see the site redeveloped "as soon as possible".
Among those joining Sir Anthony and employees as they waved farewell to the factory, were husband and wife, Colin and Delia Bond, of Sycamore Close, Uttoxeter.
Mrs Bond, aged 61, was an office clerk at Bamfords from 1963 to 1967 and her grandfather, William Hibberd, aged 82 when he died, was a brass founder at the firm.
Her late father, Bernard Egerton, was a machinist and worked for Bamfords for 50 years.
Mrs Bond said: "I think they would be very sad today, but would accept that you can't stand in the way of progress.
"In its heyday Bamfords was a huge employer in Uttoxeter and three generations of my family worked there. In those days there wasn't anywhere else for the men of the town to work in manufacturing."
Mark Hughes, aged 43, of Aintree Road, Tean, a team leader at Heavy Products, who has been with the company for 10 years, said: "It's a sad day.
"I have some very happy memories, but this is a new beginning."
John Gill, managing director at Heavy Products, said: "It is certainly a bit of a sad day with the guys telling all their stories about what used to happen."
"We are moving to the best factory in the world. I have seen all the others. We will be ready for the growth in the business when things turn round.
"There will be a lot of efficiency gains with the new factory."
He said the arm on the last excavator to be made would have travelled 150 metres in the current factory as part as the assembly process, but at the new plant it would only have to move 10 metres.
The switch to the new 450,000 sq ft JCB Heavy Products factory represents a chance for the company to grow its tracked and wheeled excavator business substantially once the global construction markets recover from the current downturn.
The firm's excavator range comprises machines from seven to 46 tonnes.
Plans for the redevelopment of the 22-acre site in Pinfold Street are also forging ahead after London-based McDowell+Benedetti Architects was chosen as the winner of a design contest to devise the scheme's final masterplan.
Six architectural practices were initially invited to submit proposals for the redevelopment of JCB's Heavy Products site as part of a Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) design contest.
Sir Anthony instigated the RIBA competition and took a personal involvement in the project to ensure the redevelopment is "of the highest possible standard".
An application for outline planning permission on the Pinfold Street site has already been submitted to East Staffordshire Borough Council

As an immigrant in a foreign land I would like to comment on political correctness...it is BS... and will be the ruin of the western world as we know it. The "soldier" that Harry called a "Paki" was /is apparently a Captain. The other soldier called a "raghead" had his head covered and in fact looked like he could have been a terrorist....the comment was made in the dark and seemed to be a quick comment as a result of being startled. If Harry had said you look like a "terrorist" I guess that would have been another deadly sin.

Just got back from my morning inspection of the town with Jack and in the space of 30 seconds met two women I know who both gave me a lovely smile. I reckon that's about as good as it gets, nice to know that there are cheerful things in the world still. Mind you, I told them both that if they kept smiling people would think they were retarded......

It seems to imply the yellow diggers were only made from 1989. But when I was at British Northrop in Blackburn in 1963 JC Bamford were making "yellow diggers"on the site (and buying up all the local JCB car registrations for their company cars).
On another matter, on the Today programme this morning the British Retail Consortium man said the drop in VAT rate from 17.5 to 15% had been as good as useless because it was insignificant against the 50% discounts that retailers have been offering. It has also cost the retailers a lot of time and money to change all the pricing information on goods. The sting in the tail is that in December 2009 they have to change all the pricing data again back to 17.5% with all the attendant cost and upset!

I'm fuming after just watching the news on TV.
What about the judge who let off some scote because the woman he assualted and robbed was "too honest and upstanding" and her evidence would would unduly influence a jury.....isn't that what justice is about?? This country has gone mad.
If I were 20 years younger I'd be looking to emigrate. Nolic
