Questions about this subject keep cropping up amid closely related topics, so I thought it may be a good idea to expand on the subject. I will not go on about my qualifications to discuss Canal Boats so lets just give it a go and see what transpires.

Not really. Another house viewing this morning but - like life on the canal - things are a bit slow in the housing market round here.Hopefully Thomo will be able to take a closer look at the boat we're interested in, plus there are a few others which have come onto the market recently. I'm quite chilled out about it all. I keep singing that Que Sera Sera song in my head. |

The housing market will no doubt pick up after the holiday season

Eek! Just had offer made on house - full asking price! Not getting over excited as these things often fall through, but it's an encouraging start. Better begin sorting out a boat pretty smartish - Thomo! Thomo! Art theer, lad? A bottle or three of top quality claret awaits... |

Good luck H&E...... Don't count chickens until money is in hand..... I once sold a house in King Street and I went to the bank and asked for the money in tenners so I could take it across to the building society. They thought I was crackers because they could have just transferred it but I wanted to walk there with a carrier bag with £30,000 in it. I knew I had it then!

Coo - I wouldn't do that today if I were you! Muggers will swipe even the tattiest of Co-op carrier bags given half a chance. As for the house sale: no, not counting any chickens (or ducks, swans or herons). House is still being marketed and will be until we get to the point where it's all signed & sealed. Anybody want to buy a sideboard? [See Classifieds] How about a Sony record deck + amp? A pair of pine wardrobes? A very nice Ovation Tangent semi-acoustic guitar? Bouzouki? Low whistle + tutorial book? Dutch dresser? Extremely nice office desk? An Intel Pro Mac? A unique collection of flying ducks, various sizes. All gotta go - no reasonable offer refused, as they say. Will be doing a car boot in the near future, methinks. Some stuff will be going on eBay - the rest will be taken to the dump. De-junking is FUN! (Not.) |

If you walked in to a bank with £30k today you would have money laundering investigators all over you like a rash.....

Ovation: Yes, Nolic, sad but true. I WILL miss it as it's very easy to hold and play with a good action, but space will be at a premium on the boat so one of my three guitars will have to go. I can't bear to part with my 1972 Gibson 12-string and my Taylor 6-string is a fine beast, so the Ovation it is. I'm planning to put it on eBay and hope to get about £250-£300 for it. It has OP30 electrics with built-in tuner. Here's a pic:
I've put it in the Music section of the classifieds on OGFB. Click here to go to a website selling a new Ovation Tangent

FAMILY HISTORY:I seem to recall some site members had ancestors who worked the canal system and were looking for more info. I was actually looking for a website which lists all currently registered canal boat names [no joy as yet - can anyone point me in right direction?] but came upon the following website which may be of interest: Click here for family history/canals |

Ooh - off to look in classifieds. We're still home-making so are in need of some bits and bobs and would rather buy from friends!

Marcia - I didn't put any of my stuff except guitar in Classifieds, but you're welcome to have a nosey round our house to see whether there's anything of interest. I think BK's coming round this evening to whip the sideboard away - we could crack open one of the 3 bottles of red wine which I found lurking at the back - didn't know they were in there! |

Cally I'm sure I came accross a site that has info on all the canal boats, I was looking for my sisters boat to get the class and stuff like that when I posted in this topic a couple of months ago. I may have saved it in my favorites on my machine at home, I'll have a look when I get home.
On a slightly different matter, can I search your garden with my metal locator before you sell the house? You never know what may be in there, you wouldn't want to sell it and then find that the new owners turn up a cache of celtic staters or torcs. You could pay for your boat with half of that. You're fairly near to the roman road and may even have the odd votive offering knocking about.
