If I remember rightly they "and their seed, were given the land forever".
It has always surprised me that the giver and promiser has let things change so much over the centuries.

Catty, how right you are, but, they have had to fight for it ever since. Belle, again, how right, "In the name of God" how many times do we hear that? Strange is not that in a technical sense the God in question is the same as worshiped by both sides, just seen from a different point of view. One thing is certain, the difference of opinion is manmade and not pre-ordained.

I used to live in Saida and worked between Saida and Tyr or Soor as the Lebanese liked to call it. The whole country was controlled by the Syrian Army we used to go upto Beirut to Shop and to see who was killing who. I was much more daring when I was younger !!! Stanley the airport used to sit in almost no mans land so the route out was via Cyprus no other way, hence US Helicopters, Waite wasn't a Spy a fool maybe not a Spy now the other two that could be a different matter.

What grabbed me this morning was the realisation I am now officially 75 years old. So many books, so little time! Now then, what extra benefits am I entitled to.....

Catty, I paid into the club for 45 hard years.
China replaces Japan as number two in the world economies. Not quite what it seems of course, more people so per capita income is still less that Japan but nevertheless an important milestone. It's got me itching to do a piece on economic growth.......

Hilary Clinton defends freedom of speech and criticises regimes for manipulating the internet as a tool of repression. Oh dear.... So why not include certain countries in the criticism, could it be that the US sees them as 'useful allies'? How about the freedom of speech of whistle-blowing sites like Wikileaks? Criticise Lasange if you will but the concept of open government encapsulated in the concept is basically good.
There was an interesting piece on World Service this morning comparing the popular revolution in Mali in 1980 before mobile phones and comprehensive internet and the present bloodless (almost) revolution in Egypt. Worth considering.....

BBC are reporting that the Government are about to back down on selling off the Forests......Thank Goodness , sense at last......or could it be that ignominious defeat didn't seem like a good option , if it came to a vote ?...Mmmm

Thomo, I'm sad to hear that. When Mum and Dad got married, their first home together in Barlick was in a caravan in the yard of the Foster's Arms. I hope the whoever buys it keeps it as a pub.
Bradders, that is good news. Selling off the forests has to be one of the more stupid ideas lately.

Steve, don't hold your breath about Fosters Arms ever being a pub again. Modern pub management companies and stupid regulations allowing bulk acohol sales in the Cathedrals of Choice have killed them.
I don't think selling off the forests, canals etc has gone away. The ConDem government poured their brilliant new schemes out too rapidly and many are blowing up in their faces. They will take them away, have a rethink and then be back, a bit like the terminator.
Have a look at this link for the latest news of research done on the remains found in Gough's Cave, Cheddar Gorge. Remember Mr Target the local schoolteacher and the mytochondrial DNA? Another look at the bones found there almost100 years ago using latest forensic techniques has produced evidence of cannibalism 14,500 years ago. The deeper we dig the more surprises we get.

If Cameron thinks the forests issue will make him poplar, then I say: 'yew must be joking'. I bet there are ash-en faces in No 10 this morning. Rowan back on too many policies must make them plane syc(amore).
Bu-Bum!
Actually this policy was an excellent example of the old civil service maxim: 'it's all very well a policy working in practice Minister, but will it work in theory?'

Bruff, i could pine for more comments, after all life's a beech, some of us elder readers have the info in our palm, but it's plane that this could become a thorn in someones side

U Turn on forest sales alreadedy noted. Another report on radio this morning regarding massive solar flare activity from sun could give a very good chance of visible aurora in northern england.
The Space Weather Site shows activity between 17th -19th February.
