No need for a torch - how good are you at pedalling?  Nolic

I have just been out on my daughters bike for a quick practice pedal. The stabisers came in handy at times and apart from falling off a couple of times I think I will be fine for pedalling duties.

Ole in't Wall is closed at the moment, the last landlord checked out just before Xmas. We will have to meet at the Working Mens Club.

Speaking as a man who has had experience with lamping large fish and spearing them, it's not as easy as it looks.  Funnily enough, tickling fish in holes under the bank has a higher score rate.  Best way to get them is a small charge of 808 with a weight on......  It stuns everything in a small pool.  We used it in the army.   If wildlife people want to clear a pool they use an electric shock, doesn't kill many but they all float to the surface.  Mind you, don't trey any of the explosive methods, they are incredibly dangerous in the wrong hands.  The old poachers used to lime a beck, they woulf fill a sock with lime and sing it in the stream.  Then wait for the fish to surface downstream.  Gets the fish but very damaging to the ecology of the stream.  Best fishermen are Herons.  If they start on a stream they will clear it out and then move on.

Comrade, greetings to you and Jack.  I disagree about the best fisherman - cormorants outfish herons easily. With the overfishing of herring from the North Sea in paricular comorants have transferred their attentions inland and for years have been raiding stocked fisheries. Herons do their bit in relative isolation on small streams and rivers in the main. Cormorants will attack fish in stock ponds with humans around - and they remain a a proteccted species!!! Nolic

PS. Sorry couldn't make it last night Ringo, Mrs Nolic says its bad for me going out  in the dark 'cos she's still getting complaints from people in Wigglesowrth, Kirkby Lonsdale and Tebay from when we went looking for Stanley. If she's not happy then she makes sure I'm not.......Nolic

I waited for you at the pre-arranged place last night but unfortunatly I fell asleep, I awoke this morning to find it was time for work, luckly it is only 100 yards away. We will have to try again another night.

Comrade, you are right, I had forgotten cormorants.  I remember once going up the dale to Burton to visit friends and he was devasted because a pair of heron had cleared Burton Beck out completely.  Problem was that one of the reasons he moved there was for the fishing.......
