Fridge full of Hogget and plenty of flour and yeast in stock, we're all right for a butty! Second half of a steak and kidney casserole for tea. A piece of meat slow roasting at the moment.

Had a small local difficulty with my bread. It wasn't rising. Did a bit of experimenting and it was down to me, too much salt and fat. I was getting careless. OK now, built a loaf yesterday that rose like a hero, perhaps I should measure fat and salt more carefully!

Having tea now, for lunch because it smells so good and I am back to eating the big meal in the middle of theday, after a run of visitors that has made it impossible.
I invented something along the lines of Casoulet, or whatever the french dish is, in order to make rations go further after all these guests! So I chopped and fried an onion, garlic, two rashers of smokey bacon , and the four pork sausages left from Sunday. I cut the sausages each into three as there are three of us. Then I peeled and chopped into large bits, two carrots, a small swede, half a red pepper, a stick and a half of celery, half a leek,  and a beetroot. I put all this in a casserole dish, added some mushrooms and green lentils, covered with stock which also had a tsp of full grain mustard in it and cooked in the oven for two hours. Added salt and pepper before serving. It's delicious but another half an hour would have rendered the lentils soft to perfection, they are soft but have just a tiny bite.

I'm going to make a chicken curry......with a hottish Masala spice mix I  recently bought in the Asian district of Derby.

My recipe is just Onion, Garlic, Chicken, bocks of frozen spinnach and a can of lentil soup from Lidl.........

Onions fried in Ghee (with the spices and Garlic) ......

Chicken browned  in the above , then bung in the spinnach and soup .....

Cook in or on the Aga till nearly ready then add  a cup of "tea" made with Methe (dried and crushed fenugreek leaf ).......This "loosens"  the whole thing , and gives a very distinctive Indian flavour !

It always tastes better on the second day .

Actually Mum doesn't  like the smell of Indian food much ,so I might cook it over an open fire in  "the jungle".

PS This also works with really well  with cut up suasages , Belle .

Daughter Susan called in to have lunch and cadge her bus fare. I gave her a butty, just fresh home-made bread and Kelbrook pork straight out of the oven. No condiments at all. She said it was wonderful (without prompting I might add) so I think the bread is on track again.

Made a veggie broth with a shoulder of lamb. Healthy stuff! Fat taken off the gravy.

I had a chip butty for lunch and the few chips left over with steak on two butties for tea. Apples for pud! I fancy some hogget and cabbage today.
