A freebie from the Government, whatever next!
I have just been issued with my New Lifetime Radio Licence, according to Ofcom I no longer have to pay for my Amateur Radio Licence, all that is required is to remember to validate it once every 5 years via the internet!!!!!
Failure to validate in this way will lead to automatic revocation of the licence.
I wonder who thought this up, seems like a good way of killing a hobby. Enjoy the next 5 years!

I'll reply to Trip's comment in the Summat fer Nowt thread here to keep it all together. Thanks for the reminder Dave, only another 4 years to go. Interestingly the RSGB seem to be on the ball, I received an invitation to rejoin the society yesterday, 1 year to the day that I got the notice of my free licence, maybe they will do this every year and I won't need Daves service after all.
Well done on the Marine VHF licence Doc, have you got a date yet for your long rangeHF/MF course?

2 Years since I received my free licence. I followed a link from the home page Google searches that lead visitors to this site. It took me back to the Ofcom site.
Good news, the powers that be seem to have reneged on their original intention not to remind licence holders when their licence was due for renewal. It would appear that as long as I keep my details up to date I will receive a reminder via email when I need to renew.
"Subsequent communications will then normally be by e-mail, particularly in relation to sending you your five year validation reminder request."
So, as a result, I will not have to rely on Dave's reminder offer after all, thanks anyway.
Ofcom have obviously picked up on the backlash of complaints regarding the absence of some form of renewal reminder.

Ian. I was thinking about this matter in the last few days. Thought it was about that time of year again. It's a relief to hear that I will not be responsible for you losing your licence in three years time if I forget to call you! (HI).
