I'm researching the history of Prospect Farm, Moorgate Road, Barnoldswick. Situated on Weets Hill.
If anyones got any information, pictures, memories or experiences of the place then please could you send me a private message with the details.

Good Maz. That tallies with the spreadsheet which a kind soul I have forgotten gave me. Handy because you can search using any term. Mind you I missed Ernest but it was early in the morning!

What sort of spread sheet is it you have? what years etc would it cover? And what sort of info? (sounds like a handy thing)

Cant help adding a bit to this topic Maz, because I think you may have misread Doc's census information. He has the Harrisons at Prospect in the 1871 and 1881, but not in the 1891 census. He does have a family called Bradley there in 1891 though!

Ah...yes...must have misread. Thanks for that. I have had a quick look and cannot find the Bradley Family anywhere in 1891 though. I have tried omitting the husband, then omitting the wife, then only putting the younger kiddies in. can't seem to locate them. Will try again tomorrow when I have more time (dinner in oven at present). My 1891 Census says Whittakers at Prospect. I can't see there would be room there for two families...and if there were...why are they not listed on my Census page? Perhaps Stanley could consult his spreadsheet?

At the beginning of this topic, Doc listed the Bradleys being occupants of Prospect house in the 1891 Census. (which does not tally with me discovering the Whittakers there at that time.) Wendyf pointed that out to me in her last post (above). I cannot find that Bradley family anywhere in the 1891 Census. I've tried several variations of looking for the Bradley family listed on Page 1 of this topic...eg omitting the father, omitting the mother. I was just wondering if you had any info on your magic spreadsheet? (they are of no importance to me really, I just wondered where they went....as they could not have been at Prospect House in 1891.)
Is this getting confusing?

Maz. Formatting goes to pot with 1881/1891. The way to read it is if there are two ages, these relate to 81/91. If there is one age and no gap after name it is 1881. If there is a long gap after the name, the entry is 1891. The strays are the location of Barlick natives in 1891.
Hope that helps?

I sent Moh the 1881/91 spreadsheet yesterday. That'll keep her studying for a while! If anyone else want it, just drop a mail to stanley@barnoldswick.freeserve.co.uk

Problem solved Maz.....The Bradleys were at Prospect House in the 1901 census not the 1891. I just looked on Ancestry in the library.

Well done Wendy! Looks as though that's a complete answer. I've just had a look in me archive and I don't think I have ever done an index search for Bradley entries. I shall address that this morning after Jack and I have inspected Barlick.

I've posted the Bradley index under a separate topic. Re. Ann Bradley and Christopher Bracewell, a long story, see the Bracewell Articles in Stanley's View. I have an idea that Ann Bradley was reared by her grandmother in Thotnton who may have been a baker. I suspect she first came to Christopher's attention delivering bread to the Manor House when he lived there. It's a good story, well worth looking it up.
I've brought it up. 'Christopher Bracewell and his families' More about Ann Bradley in there.

Oh no, problem not solved after all! This is from Stanley's Bradley Index:
Craven Herald 25/03/1932. Report of the death of Henry Bradley (75) of 26 Park Avenue. Born 1857 in Rainhall Road he was an overlooker at Coates Mill and in 1890 started farming Prospect Farm. He was there for 22 years until 1912 when he retired and moved back into the town. He leaves a widow, four sons and five daughters.
