Hi to Everyone,

I e-mailed Stanley and he was kind enough to point me in this direction. I am looking for any information on the Wilkinson family. This all started when a cousin gave my sister a card recording the burial of a Rycroft Wilkinson of Blera Side in August 1867. This card was in the possession of my grandmother who died in 1949. ( Grandfather died in 1947 ).

Well, to cut a long story short ( I know history is a long story !!! )  I have obtained the marriage certificate of a Joseph Wilkinson of Broach House who married  Caroline Harrison of  Noyna Hall on the 24th december 1837. On the marriage certificate it names Rycroft Wilkinson as Joseph's father, and a Joseph Harrison as Caroline's father. Under occupation Joseph and Caroline are Weavers (Rycroft was a Weaver and Joseph Harrison a Rougher ?).  Following this through in 1839  Joseph and Caroline had a son named Rycroft, born 6th July 1839 at this time they are living in Moss Houses ??. It is this Rycroft who I believe is on the memorial card., and who I believe is my Great Grandfather.

I have requested my grandfather's birth certificate from the CRO to see if Rycroft is named as his father.    Any information on Broach Houses , Noyna  or Moss Houses would be very much appreciated. I thank you for reading this,    great site for information.

Yours sincerely

Frank Wilkinson

ps Currently we live in Aberdeen so we can't  come down to Foulridge/Colne until March time, to investigate further.

Frank, I have just looked at the 1871 and I think it could be Taylor, and if so this MAY be her,as the registration district I think would have been Burnley

Name: Margaret Taylor
Year of Registration: 1858
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
District: Burnley
County: Lancashire, Yorkshire - West Riding
Volume: 8e
Page: 137

I will see if I can find the same girl in 1861

Cannot find her in 1861, but neither can I find her in 1871, so yours "could" be her.

I think they have. Turnaround used to be 5 working days and then after the BBC started that awful (sorry my own opinion) WDYTYA program, demand increased and the staff couldn't cope resulting in a 3/4/5 week turnaround. Back down to 5 days again now which is good news.

It's the same with wills at the moment. I ordered back in October and didn't receive until January, it used to be about 3 or 4 weeks.

Morning,

I have just received the marriage certificate for Thomas Stow and Caroline Wilkinson married at Ebenezer Chapel Crosshills,  14th September 1892. I see Thomas Stow was a widower so that may explain the difficulty sorting out his children earlier on !!!! The witness for the marriage are Robert Stow and Mary Dawson along with Ellen Fryers and William Dawson so I do have the right twins married off.  Now I am wondering if the Ellen Fryers was a Riddihough, and also the sister of  Elizabeth Riddihough, Rycrofts wife. When I thought I was nearly done another avenue opens to be explored !!!!!!!!!!!!

Name Age

Hello again,

I have been working on my grannies side the Bridge/Kenyons I have traced the marriage certificate August 3rd 1861 ( same date as me ) only 107 years before.  What's puzzling me is Fathers Name and Surname on the certificate. It says Charlotte Kenyon Servant. Would it be correct to assume this is a mistake ??? and this is the Mother,  or much older Sister??. In the 1841 census I have them living at Netherstown Whalley. Thomas Kenyon farmer aged 70  Charlotte aged 25  Cicely and Henry both young children 5 and 2 years old. Does this sound right  ?? it just seems a large age difference ?? Thanks

Do we know what it says on Henry's birth cert? I looked for her on 1851 (Charlotte) and couldn't find her, did she get married? AND, couldn't Charlotte have been married to Thomas's son and he was elsewhere or died? Just a few thoughts to add to your headache. I think Henry's birth cert would be the clue.

Hi everyone...i'm a new boy on the block.  Just joined this morning after seeing the posts about the Dawson's.  That's my interest - been researching the family from Cowling for a while now.  The Dawson's mentioned at Dawson Square are part of my clan although there is new information there for me.

I certainly have William Dawson - born about 1860.  Did not have his marriage though.

I have James Dawson - married to Sophia (don't know her maiden name)

And lots of other Dawson family info.

So i've come in late to this thread but if I can shed any light on the Dawson's for anyone i will be happy to help.  Also really glad to receive any info to help my own research.

Bye for now.

Mikey
