Nobody kicked off a debate, sorry we made comments without your permission, but sure you will get over it.  Understand that these are opinions of the individuals that posted them.  Do you have an opinion?

Brad, the most likely reason Cameron kicked this off was to attempt to make some clear water between the Tories and the Libdems for the May Council elections. He probably thinks the disaster looming will be less if he gets the Liberals to oppose Tory thinking. Playing the immigration card wasn't the smartest way to achieve this impossible project.

I can remember a time when we welcomed different races and actively sought them. Remember WW2 and the Commonwealth troops. Remember the Polish fighter pilots? Remember the cotton industry recruiting workers abroad and bringing them in to the country?

Enthusiasm for the Libya project seems to be waning.NATO says the bombing will continue until Gadafi has gone. Really? Why have three Typhoons been grounded and cannibalised for spares to keep the others in the air? See Public Accounts Committee for evidence. Is it true that US are no longer bombing?

Whales off Australia make up new songs and they get copied across the Pacific by other whales, now that really is interesting.

Stanley I await your response in to how to deal with Youth and Long Term unemployed people. If the figures are correct  with regard to EU immigrants I suppose we could opt out of the EU and send them back home !!! Fixed at a stroke.
I agree Thomo the BBC do seem to go to places like Southampton etc when covering Race Questions. These cities can, to a certain extent absorb immigrants better than Small Towns like Nelson or Colne or even Larger Towns like Blackburn.

What caught my attention was on QT last night. It just seemed to show how our First Minister is a real non entity in the Larger World outside of Holyrood.
Oh and we have been promised a Council Tax Freeze for the next 5 years, trump that England Embarassed

I see the Barnett Formula coming under increasing pressure very very shortly.

Well lets have a look at this then.  There is a large Asian community in Nelson; it's also a chronically deprived area on many measures.  Bootle here in Liverpool is almost overwhelmingly white; it's also a chronically deprived place on many measures.  Integration between the people of Nelson and the wealthier areas around, or even integration within the wider Lancashire area, is minimal.  Integration between the people of Bootle and wealthier areas around, or even with the wider Merseyside area, is minimal.  If I went to Nelson, I'd likely feel and alien in my own land; if I went to Bootle I'd feel like an alien in my own land.

The notion that the ghettoisation of parts of this land are primarily a result of ethnicity and/or immigration strikes me as way too simplistic.

What ?..........(my post was a rhetorical question.......you know , the sort where you already know the answer , and wish to add to debate........and it seems that there are those on this site who  understand such things)........

I draw your attention to the first paragraph of Stanley's post.......

I'm not normally touchy about these things , but on this occasion I think an apology would be nice !

"Stanley I await your response in to how to deal with Youth and Long Term unemployed people". Wait away, I set my own agenda.

Richard, wise calm words. I agree, If we're looking for lines of division that need breaking down let's look at the income gap between the top 10% of disposable incomes and the rest. Cameron would do well to look at this as well instead of lying about black people at Oxford University for political purposes. (In fact they have a higher proportion than most instititions including the staff at 10 Downing Street and the royal household).

I read the link not great is it ?, they have a long way to go yet !!
Falling into the media trap Stanley only looking at the figures Cameron quoted (albeit not correct I agree) but the context was what mattered.
Tax the rich to bring everyone down to the same level dosen't sound like a measured approach, you trying to kill off capatalism ??
Richards response will not help the people who feel they have been deceived by the politicos, have you been to Blackburn recently ?
Immigration is something that needs discussion before it becomes a major push issue for the Far Right,  and it will become an issue.
With regards to Youth Unemployment there is No Answer and it is a deception to think that there is. 50000 apprentice place is what has been promised by MSPs, so in 8 years time we have 200000 skilled workers doing what ? Unless the economy grows it's pointless and the economy can't grow through the Public Sector, we have tried that and it dosen't work.

Reports that Labour will have no candidate in Craven Ward Barnoldswick for the May 5th council elections have been greatly exaggerated. Bill Roberts, lives in the ward and is a Barlicker is standing.

Remember me saying that the NOW hacking scandal would run and run? I wonder if Rebeka will be discussing this with her mate Dave when they go for a ride together?

Heard Lord Dannet talking about Libya yesterday. The message he was giving is that air strikes are not enough. He didn't advocate boots on the ground but did say that that was the only effective solution. Meanwhile the US is evidently thinking about advisers and trainers for the rebels. Remember Vietnam?

Stanley, do you have any information on Bill Roberts?  Which Roberts? My grandmother was one of about 14 Roberts, her father was a William Roberts and a brother William Roberts.

Can't help Herb, I don't know him personally. Try the local labour party website, probably some details on there.

I was going to comment  on this earlier in the week after being knocked by the Lib Dem candidate who's opening statement to me when I answered the door was asking for my vote as there was no Labour Party candidate standing in Craven Ward. A blatant lie is not the best way to start your pitch to a known previously very active member of the local Labour Party. I'm fairly sure that the said candidate was / is or should be well aware of my leanings, so he should not have been too put out when I told him he was mistaken and then where to go.

Things don't seem to have changed too much with the tactics from the Liberals since I was involved. Unfortunately some people will belive it which I suppose  is the object of the statement in the first place. Dirty tactics, true to type.

There is no difference between parties themselves when it comes to the amout of lying they do.....It is just the things that they lie about that are different.

Every silver lining has a cloud.

Looks like he got caught out, trying to con you in to believing there was no Labour candidate standing in your ward. He didn't realise who you were, obviously.
