Following the recent discussion about chippies in Barlick, I was wondering whether there's merit in creating a new Forum for reviews of local eating out places? And pubs? This would benefit newcomers/visitors as well as locals. I would be happy to write reviews of the local restaurants and pubs - a tedious and arduous task but someone's gotta do it The beauty of a website like OGFB is that several people could comment on the same place - one person's meat is another person's poison - so the reader would get a fair and balanced idea, unlike newspaper reviews which depend on the mood of the reviewer on just one occasion.

Having just spent 2 nights staying at the Midland in Manchester I was surprised at the limited nature of the menu. Rooms etc luxurious and no complaints but the food was a bit of a let down. Ate in the brasserie as could not afford the £75.00 per head in the main restaurant. Very limited menu and  whilst the duck I had on the first night was nice the pork on the second was very second rate and fatty. Service was slow - 2hours + for 2 courses and the portions were very small. Breakfast was a cooked serve yourself buffet where even at 7.00am  the food had been on the hotplates for so long it had given up all pretence at flavour.

People spotting Nikki Chapman and Richard Arnold off some teatime TV food programme and John Altman who was Nick Cotton in Eastenders.  Nolic

It's a different world isn't it.  I couldn't afford a cup of tea at their prices.  Am I missing anything?

Comrade you're missing nowt from my experience of the Midland. £30.00 for 2 courses and a drink and the food is not particularly good and in very small portions. Better value at The Ram at Cliverger - 3 courses for £15.00, good quality home cooked food.

Forgot to mention, on Thursday evening we were all a bit frazled. Dan had finished school late because of rehearsals for "We will Rock You" (should be good) and done an hours work in the shop, Cath had just finished housework, Gundred just got home from college and me from Manchester (again) that we did something very unusual for us - had a chippy tea!.

Park 2 Chippy on Scotland Road is an Asian run Fish and Chip shop with almost a traditional menu (Dad once asked of Dan, "Do they deliver?" and his reply was "No, just Fish and Chips")  Cath and I had fish and chips and the others had a burger and chips and it came to £8.50. Chips were OK but the fish - fried on order was excellent. Nice and fresh, good portion and lovely crisp batter. Well worth trying. Nolic

Best chippy ever in my opinion is Townley Street/Briercliffe Road - beween Duke Bar and Briercliffe.  Wins hands down everytime!!
