Bill Driver use to live here at Prospect Farm, He was the gamekeeper on Whitemoor for many years , I think he moved from here in the 1970's and went to live at Star Hall, I have never met him but have heard wonderful stories about him.

I think Bill died about 5 years ago.

Driver family index entries as of 16/01/06.

Alan Driver was the shop lad for Rlph Wyn in the pawnshop in Newmarket Street in Skipton that later became Ledgard and Wyn.  The 1841 census records John Driver as Hatter of Salterforth Lane Head.  (I think this might have been the now demolished cottage to the east of the junction which was called 'Hatter's Rest'.  He was 26.  Wife Isabella was 25.  Duaghter Sphia, 6. Cormack, son, 4.  Sidney, son was 2.  Albert, son, was 5 months.  Thomas Driver in Earby was the shed manager brought in by Henry Bracewell c.1883.  He came from Rawtenstall.

Not the one you're looking for but all grist to the Driver mill.....

Ha Ha Stanley.  I'm reading your entry and going "there's no way we have any Cormacks!"  You are right, all grist for the Driver mill.  I hit a jackpot yesterday.  There is a friendly kind man who runs a group community home for people with dementia- in Skipton.  He's got a Spanish and Yorhsire accent combined. My Dad's brother (who i never knew existed) lived there for 1 year before he died in 1991.  he had spent most of his life in a long term hospital.  This gentleman is going to dig up the records (I have official permission) and also share what he says are vivid memories of Ozzie.  Isn't that someone who understands and gives of their time -  all for a stranger...and strange I am.

Am I right in thinking that Mostyn Avenue was what we called Earthquake Row - i.e. the Row  that ran down off Green End and you passed on your way over the `Tranmire'fields?

My Uncle William Edward Driver was born March 19, 1910 I think in Broughton.  His grandfather James Driver of Oldfield Farm Dixon Hill near Oakworth, Keighley had a brother William born 1835. Perhaps you accidentally fell into the him later.  But the ages don't match. I looked in the phone book for Keighley on line .....so many Driver's!  I found out a female Driver married a man - a Jack Atkins.  He was known as Happy Jack and is a loveley story according to a helpful city worker in the town office Keighley.  She put me onto a couple of people who will do a little digging for me.  The farm now seems to be owned by someone running Maria Callas International.  When I come I am going to climb up there and get a photo.  So back tothe William you found....don't think so but maybe.  Have printed it out and will keep for future reference. Thanks Stanley

Would really like to hear more about Mostyn Ave and Earthquake Row.  Sounds like a good story.  Thanks Ted

Christy, Sorrie, on consulting Jim Walker's map my memory must have been playing me up. The Earthquake Row was in fact Rushton Avenue - it got its name from an earthquake early in the 1900s - either, when it was being built or very soon after completion. Certainly there were still some signs of settlement in the houses in the 1930s.  Mostyn Avenue was/?is the row between Longroyd Terrace and Brook Shed.

OK Got it Ted and handlamp.  Thanks.  Anyone into cricket.  I think my Dad played for Earby before coming to Canada before 1949.  He was on West Yorkshire Police force too.  I want to look for old pictures in their archives at the club next time I come.

Grandmother Lydia Driver was born in Nelson 1910 but family were all from Keighley. Her grandfather ran The Bull at Nelson (Sam Driver). She had cousins who emigrated to Canada, I remember meeting Aunt Nora Billadeau in the 70's.

Doe this ring any bells with anyone - my grandmother moved to south when she got married so I have never been to her homeland - I remember her sayings ..

Stop your mithering

Put wood in'th hole

Skany eyed (? cross eyed)

Anyone know a bloke called Darren Driver - from Nelson I think. He used to be a daily customer at Ernie's Cafe in the old arcade.
