As you say Bradders, the whole caboodle stinks. Having said that he would clean things up after the departure of his `mate' TB, this lad seems to be sinking deeper into the mire. If I was a New Labour MP (and I'd exclude F.F.,G.P. and D.S.) I'd be looking for another job.

The FSA (Financially Supine Authority) needs to be scrapped and independent regulators appointed outside the loop with power. Not the BofE, their hands are dirty as well.

Bankers and industry leaders are not the only problems. Our equivalent of the USA's IRS ( Revenue Agency) the CRA, who have the responsibility of collecting our tax dollars were audited recently. The first issue raised by the Auditor General was that thousands of credit cards had been issued to staff members in the governments name, many showed abuse of use ( some with a credit limit of $900,000). The second point raised was that an average of $3,000,000 annually had been paid out in error to employees. The excuse for this was that the termination information did not get to payroll in time....DUH!

I was surprised to read that the FA have increased prize money this year, considering how tough things are getting. Winning team now gets 2,000,000GBP, double last year, and that does not include TV/Radio rights or winnings in earlier rounds.

Another 'adviser' has jumped ship. The man in charge of the new committee on regulating banks with government investment. It will all hit the fan today. What got my immediate attention was Jack wakening me up because he had an upset stomach. Poor lad! Never mind we got outside in time!

Herb, I don't know if the British "Revenue and Customs" (as we have to call them now) indulge in what you describe but they are in a big mess. Lots of staff have gone and there are enormous backlogs of work. Also lots of errors. Our business accountant is tearing his hair out!

Tizer, I deal with our CRA on a regular basis, and have for almost 50 years, as an accountant. What amazes me , as an example, I had a client claiming a pick up truck and utility trailer as a business expense and the auditor would not allow it, he thought that the "crew cab" made the vehicle a pleasure vehicle and that the utility trailer was for camping, he could not understand that it was made for tools etc. He did allow the GM Yukon (expensive SUV) as a business item. My point is that our CRA hire people fresh off "the boat", their knowledge of our tax laws is very limited, and their knowledge of western business practices even less, sadly for many their ability in English is still less. It seems that refugees don't have to worry about getting jobs in Canada, they simply work for the government, and it seems to be in areas such as taxation, immigration and unemployment insurance, all of which tends to irritate people, and for just cause.

The 13 year old boy who has been "proudly" proclaimed the youngest dad in Britain??? I hope the local authority where his and his 15 year old girlfiend's parents live are investigation whether they have been complicit in this "abuse". Sky News is reporting that the kid was allowed to share his girlfriends bed in her home. I'd love to know how the press got hold of this --- money changing hands for the story?

Some of the news items on this one yesterday were classics. "At age 12 he decided that a baby would be a good idea" and "I dont know how we will manage on my pocket money". Enough! I feel sick already.

I think the TV soaps have a lot to answer for here. There are people who think they are real life, where babies are passed around like parcels to other members of the family, and it's only a matter of time until you win the lottery. Nolic, you are well up in these matters. Do you think there could possibly be any enquiry into whether the parents were complicit, and would any action be taken? Would that be deemed too judgmental, and not in the best interests etc.

The police have already decided that they are to take no action but if I were a professional in the local authority I would want to initiate a safeguarding investigation but then again the situation is so unusual that its difficult to predict.
Soaps might have some influence but its still down to the values and behaviour that parents and schools instill. Nolic

Further to the above. It appears that the police and local authority in East Sussex have undertaken a joint investigation and decided that the only action necessary is to support the youngsters!! Belief is beggard. Nolic

Herb, we have a small business which, by it's nature, has very different income from one year to the next. A few years ago the tax man decided we should be investigated because he noted our earnings had gone down dramatically compared with the previous year. Of course, he hadn't looked to see what we got in earlier years. Our accountant got on the phone to his boss and sorted it. But of course we end up having to pay for the accountant's time clearing up the Revenue's mistakes.

The 13 year old !Dad"?. It appears that there are now two other contenders for this title. A 14yo, and a 16yo pair of youths have sworn in front of solicitors that they both shared the bed of the Girl at about the time she became pregnant, with her parents consent and without contraception. "what the hell is wrong with her parents"?.
